XM - Recent Renewals?

12 most for $99. Just went on the first long trip and am pissed by the number and length of the ads. Probably will not renew and they are raising rates in June.

Yeah, I just renewed ... my Verizon family plan.

Seriously, with HD FM, streaming audio, and what 64G USB drives who needs it?

And then I found out the shark fin is ONLY for the XM, has nothing to do with GPS. A hole in the sheet metal for something I don't want, and, its in the way of many racks.

Somebody must be good on their knees is all I can figure.

Switched to BYOD with Verizon the moment my contract was up and increased my data (they had a special) while reducing my overall monthly bill (2 lines, unlimited txt/voice, 10 GB data for $100/month). Now I simply play TuneIn Radio or Pandora.

There is a little bit of latency every once in a while, but I'm no audio freak, so plenty good for my taste/use. Verizon coverage is pretty good where I've driven across the country (UT, CO, AZ, TN, SC, KY, IN, OH) so it's worked fine for me.

I used to pay $99 (plus the taxes and fees) for 12 months.

Okki

Consumes way too much data. I don't know about the US, but plans aren't cheap here. I couldn't get the extra data I need for what I pay to XM.

Sirius/XM

I have a 2011 Camry that has satellite radio capabilities or use to. We renewed and did enjoy it with the exception of it cutting out when near trees that would block the signal. So anyways, the radio starting dropping the signal regardless of our location. I refreshed several times and called a few times with no change. Their solution was to send me a dash radio. Ok I agreed to try it, and what I ended up with was a radio hooked to my A/C vent with wires coming out from my dash. Oh it worked but looked like, well you can guess. So I called them and requested them to terminate my contract and to refund what money they owed me which they did. With the ability to stream from your phone to your radio, really what's the point?

FWIW - following the advice of others in this thread, I told them I didn't want to pay the $112 renewal rate and that others are seeing $29 for 6 months. No hesitation. He just gave it to me.

They will charge automatically at end of 6 months so threw a reminder on the calendar to do this again in December.

The Eastern Sierras, Mojave, Death Valley, Northern and Central Nevada: They can get pretty lonely. Listening to an SF Giant's game (or any radio) far from any cell service is worth the $5-$6/mo to me.

Exactly. Plus, I like the fact that you can get sports and talk radio as part of the "upgraded" package and not have to buy MLB, NFL, etc, packages separately and can listen through the app away from the car.

I've get the letter about once a month, $20 for 5 months (not including taxes/royalties). It's not a bad deal but I never bite on it. Their selection of electronica is tiny, and I never was a sports or talk radio fan. So what I end up listening to are always the decade genre's 80's+. I can hear similar stuff on local radio, commercials included. With bluetooth I can hear exactly what I want when I want from my phone. I'll listen to it occasionally on the free weeks or in a rental/loaner, but I don't think you'll ever catch me paying for XM/Sirius.

I've had satellite radio since it first came out but the prices have now gone crazy. My trial is up in July. Will call to see what they offer when I cancel. Only listen to Octane anyway. Probably won't renew.

what happen if you don't call and cancel? I have the 3 month free trail period that comes with the new car purchase. I don't think I am going to sign up. Will they just cancel the service? or do I have to call and listen to them telling me how awesome it is and to stay with xm, etc.....

You don't have to do anything but you will probably get mailed offers for the next 10 years or so. Still can't be as bad as ATT uverse or Charter TV, I get 3 of those a week.

Ha, just got this email. My plan ends in September but they are nice enough to tell me now that I won't get a written warning of an automatic renewal, only an email.

They will give you 6 mo for $25

6 months for 25 is pretty sweet. I thought I "renewed" my 6 month trial for $5/month. I'm now a year into it and all you have to remember is to renew every 6 months for the (I forget the name of the basic package) and they will do it. I had to speak to someone in the retention department.

Both my runner and the wife's lexus are currently on the $5/month plan. Tell the person you speak with that they have two options,
1. Renew my XM at 5 bucks a month
2. Lose me as a Sirius customer.

Some people just don't get it...

I spend as much time completely out of cell phone range as I do in cell coverage.

I wonder if there is a Pandora thread someplace we can all go bash with XM radio information...?
