XREAS Leaky Struts - Dealer quote too hight?

If you were in texas and wanted to stay stock we could rip the x-reas off and throw on stock bilstein 3100s ( OEM take off shocks ).

I cant believe someone stated Bilstein 5100s are rock hard. They actually have a softer compression ratio than the X-reas. But if you want a Cadillac ride look at King of Fox but be prepared to fork out some serious $$$

I run Radflos ( ditched my X-reas as well ). Softer than Icon but stiffer than King or Fox. I didn't like the ride with King's , it was too soft as I like to feel what the truck is doing when I off road. When I tested Kings in my friends truck I could hear the tire spinning but couldn't feel it or identify the wheel from the drivers seat. The suspension was too good IMO.

Icon or Radflo would be good if you want a softer than stock ride.
Bilstein 3100s are stock and what the X-reas was based off ( shock body and valving are identical ). 5100s are higher quality and slightly softer on the set up.

OME Ironman is hard suspension designed for heavy loads. If you're stock I wouldn't recommend this.

2018 update. 03 Limited XREAS delete.

Am I getting bamboozled?

I have a 2008 Limited 2WD 4.0 V6 and was recently told by a mechanic that my front struts were leaking. He said it would be just over $500 to replace. He called me back a little later and said they had hydraulic cables coming off the struts and he didn’t know what he was looking at and wouldn’t be able to work on it.

After a little research, I found out that I have XREAS. I called the Toyota dealership to see what they could do and they said I would have to replace the whole system, due to the connections (Front Right to Rear Left and Front Left to Rear Right).

He quoted me at $2,790 for parts and $1,500 for labor. Is he crazy?

I asked about replacing the XREAS with conventional shocks and he said he didn’t think I could, because it would jack up the electrical system. I told him I had done some research on this forum and that I thought the system was all mechanical. He said he’d look into it.

Any advice?

Old thread, but I just went through this with my 03 limited.
Yes those quotes are high, but turns out its a thing. I got a few quotes and was all in the $2k-$3k range here in Seattle.

I ended up deleting the XREAS, and getting a whole new kit for the money.
Boss Coilover kit from Toytec and after shopping around got the labor down to $719 out the door. Soooooo happy with the look and the job that Truline did. 100% recommend.
Wierdly enough I got a $1500 labor quote from Truline Seattle, and a $700 quote from the Bellevue location.
Pro tip, shop around!!

Remove XREAS

Just did the same on my 03 with 175k miles because the back shocks were leaking. I was worried about the impact...I honestly cannot tell the difference.
