XREAS Replacement

All,

I see several threads here discussing XREAS. I would like to replace mine on my 05 sport and add a little lift. Any thing special I need to do, can I just remove XREAS and then bolt on a lift that would fit any other 05 non-sport? I have an OME lift on my FJC that I like, I am surte they make one for the runner

You can remove your XREAS and replace it with an aftermarket suspension that will give you a little lift. I suggest looking to toyteclifts.com ... great website that provides great customer service.
However...I wouldn't use the term "bolt on" lightly, to install a lift, you pretty much need a full hoist. Which is usually exclusive to professional shops.

Why do you want to replace your XREAS? If there is nothing wrong with it, you can go with the much cheaper option of a spacer lift, which will not replace your XREAS but just add a little height. A full suspension swap will probably cost you around 1000, if thats the money you are willing to spend. A spacer lift may only set you back 200-300.

If your XREAS is faulty however, a suspension swap would probably be for the better, and you should check out the toytec website.

Well since I am in the same boat as you, lol have a sport 4runner and an fj. I have been looking at changing my tired xreas suspension and lifting it.

The most popular option bilstein 5100 was able to find them for under 340 shipped. And then picking out what coils you want to go with So many spring options to choose from. You could use you stock fj springs if you still have them, or ome springs or toytec springs.

Not sure what you mean by this, but you can remove xreas with jack stands and basic tools. 4 stands would be ideal so all tires are off the ground but it can also be accomplished with two if you don't disconnect the lines until the shocks are off the truck.

Not sure I get why you would have to have a car lift for this. a good floor jack and a pair of jack stands is more than capable of doing the job. And as far as going with a spacer lift, it requires the same amount of effort that the OME lift does.

yes the OME lift is 800 dollars, but there are other option out there that are the same setup for much less, Iron Man 600 ProComp 550.

I just don't want a member to pass on good options because of misinformation.

Semi-on topic - TOY2G, do you have experience with either the Iron Man or ProComp lifts?

I know that Iron Man suspensions have a good reputation in Australia and only recently begun selling stateside. How do they compare to OME for example? Since they are close in price this might be a good comparison.

I've seen random reviews on ProComp lifts but nothing very definitive for 4th Gens. If they are comparable to both OME/Bilstein/Iron man, maybe Ark can add that to his sticky for other forum members to reference.

I was thinking about giving the ironman suspension a shot, it's just a gamble theirs only a few guys with them and their on the fj forums. And I need them to handle well on road more then anything

I have the OME on my fj and am very happy with the ride, much better IMO than the runner. I have stuffed a little extra tire under there now and can use some clearance for my beach runs.

Iron Man...........If any of you have been to the FJ Summit in the last two years you may have bumped into them.

I have a very good friend that owns Outrider Off Road in Saginaw TX. He is an Iron Man distributor and has been running it on his FJ for the last year plus, and he is more than aggressive with his FJ. I have seen and installed Iron Man lifts at Outriders shop and I have to be honest, I see little to no difference between OME and Iron Man. In fact I am running Iron Man trim packers on my OME struts.

Digger (Owner Outrider) did a group but on the FJForums for Iron man I think around June, I am sure if there were interest he would offer it here also.

I have heard two very bad stories about the ProComp but given I have no hands on with them, I will leave that for someone else.

Save yourself some money and do it yourself. It is very straight forward, almost as easy an oil change or tire rotation. Direct bolt in basically. Can easily be done in 2 hours.
