Gentlemen,

I have a 08 4runner limited with XREAS. I would like to put a small lift maybe 2-2.5"

If cost was not a factor, only ride quality.

What system or shock/lift combo would most closely duplicate the XREAS ride?

Is this even possible?

(I was having trouble getting this question out there, sorry if I cluttered the site up) I spoke to my local off road shop, they were off road knowledgeable, but not the kind of off road/XREAS/Toyota/SME knowledgeable I need. Thanks

The body roll reduction of Xreas might be difficult to duplicate, especially if you want a lift. At least mine seemed very agile when I had Xreas.

If you have the money, I would recommend running Icon or King adjustable front coilovers custom valved to a street setting or with remote resi's and clickers for you to adjust yourself.

For the price though, its difficult not to recommend a Bilstein 5100s setup if it is just for the street.

To keep body roll down once you lift it, you will want a decently firm shock. I have my Icon CDC setting at their firmest which makes it stiffer over bumps (think sports car) but I find it feels very controlled this way and has a bit less body roll with my front sway bar removed.
 
I'll agree with that. If you've got the money, a digressive valved shock (Icon, King, etc.) will give you the best ride on the street without being harsh.
 
Yeah, that's the kind of info I need.

I practically never go off road, but I want the look.

I'm all about the sports car ride, well. Let me rephrase. I just want it similar to when it had 60k on it. Not too soft, not to hard, but can take interstate travel turns at 80-90 mph with minimal body roll. It used to handle great!
 
In regards to running the adjustable coilovers, will they provide a bettter ride than the bilstein set up?

The adjustable option seems overkill if I only want the XDEAS ride. However, if that's what I have to do to replicate the ride, and get some lift...
 
Unevolved, do you think most off road shops will know about "digressive valved" suspension? This seems like a really complex project

If you want to closely duplicate the ride with little to no off-road enhancements, but you want a 2"ish lift I'd reccomend replacing your XREAS shocks with new XREAS shocks and add a 2" spacer lift by Daystar. IMO it's the best way to maintain factory ride plus add a little height to the look of your T4R.

Part of the problem is I really don't what I'd be getting if I used some of the previously discussed options.

Correct me if I'm wrong, As far as ride quality goes, that XREAS system is hard to beat

Kings are actually progressive but I'm not a big believer in that it makes a whole lot of difference between the two as long as they are tuned to your application.

Brand new Xreas ride quality should be similiar to Bilstein 5100s over bumps if not better with the Bilsteins, but the body roll will be greater. I only mention this because buying new Xreas shocks from your dealer will cost a fortune. Its possible, but it's like $2k or more from what I remember some quotes guys were getting one here.
 
It's for sure pricey.

Wonder if there are any owners out there who have actual experience in the difference between XREAS and the bilstien. Or if there's a mod that reduces body roll with the bilsteins
 
I kept my xreas and did the daystar lift. everything seems to be fine. Ride quality is still just as good in my opinion.

Its not too pricey. I got about 2.5 inches of lift up front but lost a 1/2" with addition of a winch. It looks good with the right amount of lift - just waiting on tires now.
 
Thanks for the input man, you're fortunate that your XRAES was still good.

I'm forced to make a decision on replacement, mine are worn out.
 
I had XREAS in my 08 when I bought it. If its not blown, a spacer lift from [MENTION=9]Jason B[/MENTION] is a great option. If it is, its very costly to replace. I went orignally with Radflo 2.5 coils in the front and Icon in the rear. I like the Radflo a lot better. It feels smoother on the street and off road. I just ordered Radflo rears and am ditching the Icons.

Problem is everyone has there own opinion on what "comfort" is, so unless you can find some people with different setups in your area that will take you for a ride, all your really doing is taking someone elses "confort opinion" and hoping its the same as yours.

Toyota quotes:
New XREAS, $1700 parts and labor. (No lift)

Off-road shop:
Bilstien 5100 adjustable, says they can adjust the front and raise it 2-2.5 inches and add a 1-1.5" spacer to the rear if needed.
$1000 parts and labor

The shop insisted that the bilstiens will have a stiffer more sporty ride and hardly any body roll due to them being filled with nitrogen, rather than oil.
Idk, I'm kinda leaning towards the bilstiens.

Can anyone vouch for this claim? After having an XRAES?

I had 5100 after my XREAS and before real coils. It was ok. On road was good. Off road sucked pretty bad. Deffinatly stiffer then XREAS.

Huh, I didn't know that. I guess it makes sense from a "keeping off the bumpstops" perspective.

I've had Billy's on my former craptastic Grand Cherokee and loved them for about a week. The ride was definitely stiffer and eventually that became old.

I guess I'm in the minority when I had my XREAS shocks replaced a couple/few years ago AND LOVE THEM. In fact, when these go bad (I'm aware that I'll have to replace the SHOCKS, lines and fluid exchangers....RE: the whole damn system), I would like to replace them myself (with the help of a mechanic friend who has access to a lift........... from what I understand, installing a new XREAS isn't difficult, you just have to be careful........ I could be wrong).

$1700 parts and labor?????????? That's it???? That's not bad if true (for the whole system).
