They were okay...at least the one I road in would need a good amount of improvement, in my eyes, for me to consider buying one. The "stadium seating" for the back seat passenger was a little too high for decent head room when I got in one... and I don't consider myself tall at 6 feet. Also the thing was a dog unless you get the supercharged version. It looked cool, and had the right idea.. with some improvements it could be cool again.

When they were still selling them, you could buy a bare ass base BOF SUV with V6, 4x4 and a stick shift for around 26k if you stacked your deals right.
That is a pretty damn good deal.
If they go along with this price structure, they will have a winner, if they dump a 40k plastic turd on consumers they won't sell any.

Aside from my 91 Z32 TT, I'm not much of a Nissan fan and could really care less. I think most of the Xterra 'success' in the US came from them having horrid resale value and being very attainable after a few years. I'm all for competition but I doubt this is something Nissan would bring back to states...at least in a manner that would be any sort of off-road contender.

I used to have one in yellow. I think it's one of the few SUVs you could get in yellow.

I owned two. A 2003 gen 1, and gen 2, 2006. They were both bare bone 4x4 models with manual transmissions. Five speed on the earlier one and a six speed on the later one. I liked the later engine and restyling thats why I traded in the 2003. It has a very strong engine too. I owned the 2006 up until early 2016 when I bought my 4Runner. It had about 130k on it then. I took that one all over the country too. My daily drive is very short so my miles stay low. It was in very good shape too.
It's shortcoming was that it lacked real 4x4 capability, but it was very good in general off road situations. The leaf springs was one of its problems as was its limited 4x4 features. One wheel in the front spins and one in the rear. It had no traction control gadgets to help. A shovel, gloves and a deductive brain were necessities to make up for the gadgets.

I hope it does come back. Before I got my 4Runner, I had looked at the Xterra. If were still in production, I probably would have went with that instead because of price tag and I didn't/don't need every ounce of technology in the vehicle I own to enjoy it. The market needs more mid-size, BOF SUVs.

I was a fan of the full frame Nissan Pathfinders, and bought a 1989 used / 3 years old, with 52,000 Km.
- wife drove it, for several years
- I drove a few years
- son drove it through HS, at 16 y/o
A total of 14 years family driving and finally sold it with 350,000 trouble free Km (217K miles).
- it was a tank in snow
- they were known for the auto transmission failing, due to heat...we were lucky
- one timing belt change
Got tired of the 2 doors, and uneasy rear seat entry / plus no AC and no PW-PDL, got old.
- and last 2 E-Tests were difficult to pass, on low idle / even though it ran perfect & used zero oil
- longest I ever kept an old vehicle / just loved the original styling & vehicle size
The unibody Pathfinder introduced in 1995 was the end to a great SUV.
- bringing out the XTERRA, was an attempt to regain lost ground...in the full frame segment
- XTERRA suffered ugly grill & Frog Eyes on the roof
I drove a new one in 2015, Pro4X listed for $45,000 Cdn...just couldn't get excited enough.
- shortly after the test drove of the XTERRA, purchased a v6 RAV4 and my Gen3 4Runner SR5...and couldn't be happier

We drove a '13 Xterra when looking to replace our '04 Grand Cherokee. The engine seemed equivalent to the 4R in power delivery. The ride wasn't bad. I loved the price. At that time, I was seeing Pro4X's on Cars.com for right at $30k.
What sealed the deal for the 4R? No sunroof available in Xterra. Rear door openings were extremely narrow (no good for our aging parents who ride with us when visiting, or when we're visiting them). Despite the ride being reasonable, the Xterra seats were not comfortable to us. Those 3 things alone were worth the extra $10k to get the 4R, not to mention all the other upgrades.
That said, if the seats were better and it was just for us, the Xterra would've been tough to walk away from for the money.
I hope they do bring it back, improved, and kept BOF. Competition is good for the consumer...

Good points. I did notice and read/hear about the narrow rear doors. You gotta take care of the parents! All in all, I'm glad I went with the Runner. I wish there were more options though. The Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wrangler wouldn't hold up to the amount of driving I do. Everything is either too big for where I'm at in life or of a unibody frame. The 4Runner is the sweet spot for me and I'm glad my timing allowed me to get my favorite trim.
