XYG Glass?

Anyone know anything about the quality of XYG safety glass? I did a search here but didn't find anything. My windshield got cracked by a rock a few weeks ago, and I finally got around to getting it replaced. Insurance wouldn't cover Toyota OEM, so this is what I got. The installer said it was a 1-2mm thicker than the Toyota glass, so maybe that will be a good thing... and it was free.

On another note, in the rain yesterday, I REALLY missed the water shedding properties of my old windshield. Didn't think much about it until it was gone. I guess it's RainX time.

I had to replace my windshield for the third time and instead of Rain-X I used AquaPel. It works much better and lasts longer.

What Insuarance company do you have? I have Statefarm and just got my windshield replaced a few months ago with the Toyota glass. The stock glass from the factory says Temperlite, but the new glass says Lamipane, but they both have the Toyota OEM Stamping.

Also my insuarance covered it completely free as there was a $0 deductible on windshield glass.

I got XYG Safety glass when I independantly replaced mine. Mine has a greenish bar on top to shield the eyes from the sun too.

I don't know anything about it, it's Safety Glass so all I hope for is that holds up in a big accident.

The glass that was on there when I bought my truck used wasn't OEM so I didn't notice a big difference. I mean, if a rock is gonna hit the glass, it'll leave a mark no matter how thick it is.

I actually have State Farm too. There was a zero deductible, but they would only let me get glass from there "preferred vendors", and Toyota wasn't on the list. Maybe different agents have different policies on these things, or maybe I should have pushed harder.

Anyway, I swear this glass is tougher than OEM. The first good hit my OEM glass took with a rock, it cracked, and I have taken quite a few rocks lately with just a few tiny chips.

Do miss the water shedding though...

actually the windshields on the o6's are thicker than the 03-05's. They made it thicker because of the cracking and to make the cabin quieter. I think the side windows are thicker also. The toyota website mentions this too, I think. Will the new 06 windshields fit the older models???

I found this infon how to best prepare your windshield before applying Rain X. I still have the OEM windshield, but I just might try cleaning it using Bar Keeper's Friend.

First, they clean off all the grime and road film using a cleaner called Bar Keepers Friend, a non-scratching polishing compound. Using plenty of water, wipe it on the windshield in a circular motion with a pad or sponge - then wipe it off. This lifts off a ton of grit. Then they mix some isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) with vinegar then rub it on the windshield with a folded paper towel. This will clean off any fingerprints or water spots. It also does a great job of cleaning the inside of the windshield too without leaving any streaks. Lastly, Sam and Dave then "treat" the cleaned windshield with Rain-X. In states prone to pouring rain outbursts, Rain-X makes the water virtually blow off the windshield - offering a very clear view."
