Yes another mpg thread BUT this one is different!

So! I've already done all my maintenance on the truck by changing the items bellow:
-Air filter
-Fuel Filter
-PCV valve
-2 x o2 sensors
-Cleaned injectors
-Seafoamed
-New spark plugs
-Plug wires
-Fuel pressure regulator
-Cleaned throttle body
-Synthetic engine oil
-Water temperature sensor
-New mass airflow meter

Now the truck is a 3.4 5speed has 265/75/16 duratrac c loads with a front plate bumper + winch and a rear plate bumper with tire carrier and jerry can.The truck has no belly armor ,sliders or any other heavy items.

With all of this I was expecting to atleast get 16 city 18 highway Instead i'm getting 11mpg combined .About 190miles on a full tank!I drive 55-60mph on the highway and drive under the speed limit most of the time.

What else can I do about this?I know this is way too low cause i've msged a few members with full armor (bumper,belly skids, sliders,)+roof rack and 285's and they're getting around 15-16mpg (automatic)

I've noticed I am getting around 11-13 MPGs right now as well. I Seafoamed and did spark plugs and wires not long ago. It is cold and my truck is workin harder :)

I see you have 305's though! 11mpg is my top end with highway included.
 
Did you observe this during the summer months? I know my truck takes a big hit when the stations start carrying "winter gas" around here, I go from 300/tank to 250/tank...

Also, if it's a 4wd model, make sure you're not accidentally stuck in 4hi or something. :)
 
I got the truck on the road in november so I didnt experience summer driving yet.I know winter gas can affect it but this is a huge difference!

Its definately not stuck in 4wd
 
I know for a fact that my truck gets 16-18 in the summer months.
My Fuelly has me at 16 MPGs right now but I also haven't gotten my truck calibrated yet so I met be getting a bit more. Are you calculating your MPGs properly?
 
damn that sucks man. That scares me from getting bumpers. I have 265's an auto and good maintaince, not as much as you though and I'm getting 16-17 mpg.

What weight oil are you using? I use a 5-20 in the winter, that's really all I can think that you haven't covered. How much do you think your bumpers weigh?
 
5-30 should be your weight. How much of your driving is highway, like %? I know when im almost only in city i get 40 to the quarter tank, which is about 10-11. But once i hop on the freeway i'll get close to 70-80 a quarter tank, which is near 18-20 mpgs...
 
This is interesting. I owned my previous 4runner for about 6 months before I rolled it. Right from when I got it, it consistently got 11-12 mpg, no matter how gently I drove it, and it was a bone stock 5 spd with 31" bfg all terrains. I began to change the things you listed. I did a new air filter, O2 sensors, spark plugs and wires, oil/ oil filter change, throttle bottle and MAF sensor cleaning, and sea foam. I also checked the obvious things like tire pressure. Nothing made ANY difference and it was very frustrating. I would have kept trying things had I not rolled it.

One thing I did that you did not list was I rebuilt my parking brake bell cranks. One of them was rusted in place so I was driving around with one of the rear brakes partially on. Like everything else I did, it didnt make any difference, and I doubt it would cause the mileage drop that youre experiencing.
However, it might be something worth checking for good measure anyways.
 
Thanks Brandon I actually checked and ajusted my e brake last night after I put my rear locker it.
 
Wait till the temps are above 15 degrees C.

Right now, i am getting 14.5 L/100km in my bone stock 99. I drive to get good mileage, if i let a buddy drive it, it would probably be 15-16 L/100km.
This is with 265/70/16 michelin ltx m/s2's.
Your 265/75/16 duratracs are about 4% larger than stock, so add that to your total mileage (now almost 200miles to a tank).

Is your truck parked indoors, or outdoors? Does it have a block heater? In the cold winter, when i park outside, i see 1L/100km increased fuel consumption, vs when i park in my garage (which is about 8 deg. C). Short drives also kill mileage.

FWIW, During the big snowstorm in TO last week, i saw 24 L/100km (8-9 mpg).

Summer time i get 10.5 - 12.5 L/100km...

Thanks Greg i'm hoping that its just the weather!I park outside and my commute to work and university are between 2km-10km so I do a lot of short trips.

Are your parts OEM? Factory recommended parts?

Tell me about it! This morning i went to get gas but couldn't. Their lines were frozen! I always went to the same gas station here but after today i wont. The gas lines should not freeze... Made me wonder wth they had mixed in with that gas to make it freeze. Im sticking with "Shell" gas from now on because i think "Conoco" gas is the reason my mpg dropped so much this winter. Also reset my computer this morning to see if Shell gas will be any better.

Based on what you just said, it's just the weather, nothing to worry about.

I've noticed i lose 10-15% of my MPG if i leave my A/C on. I only turn it on when i need it (when it gets 30 degC +, otherwise it's all windows open!) Also i always open the rear window if the front ones are open, if you don't open the fronts all the way, i don't open the rear very far or it will pull too many fumes in. If i've got all the windows down there is no problem putting the rear window down all the way. You should see 12L/100km in the summer, or better (before i got a scangauge 2, my best MPG was 11.8 L/100km, with it, 10.5 L/100km)
 
Air filter and fuel filter are wix items but this all OEM or nothing madness is definately all internet hype.I call bs to whoever says that my wix filters are robbing me all this fuel.

You are right that the AIR filter doesn't need to be OEM but yes spark plugs, wires and other engine parts should be OEM.

If you are really getting 11 MPG you should go to a Toyota mechanic. There has to be one somewhere nearby.

I would consider a compression test since you've already replaced the MAF, Spark Plug and Wires (OEM I assume ...?). :bolt:
