Yet another stereo/wiring question

Ok, I'm sorry if this has been covered before, but I'm sort of cunfused here. I searched and couldnt find anything about what I'm seeing... Pulled out the factory head unit today, to install a new kenwood deck. I know about the factory amp removal, and wiring harness, etc etc. What I wasn't prepared for was to see what appears to be two antenna connections. Theyre both different sizes, and go into two different ports on the back of the factory deck. One looks like it runs to the front, so I'm assuming it's for the antenna, but what the heck is the other one? It runs to a small metal box tucked up under the drivers side dashboard... I couldnt get a pic of the box because A.) it started raining whilst I was working on it, and B.) There is a RATS NEST of speaker wire chopped and soldered into all kinds of stuff under there. Yep, it appears the po of my truck was a freelance electrician. Someday, maybe I can figure out what all that crap is, but why he used speaker wire instead of regular wire... some people... anywyas, any ideas on the stereo part? :thanks:

Ok cool. May have to re-do that one, it looks kind of rough, and flimsy. Just out of curiosity, what is the small metal box that antenna line runs into?

Ha! I ran into the antenna problem last weekend when I was going to hook up a new unit. We have a diversity antenna: they are both for the antennas. I found the following write up and ordered the two parts from Amazon.com. They came Friday and I didn't have a chance to install them yet. The two parts with shipping cost about $17.

Uh... No...


There is a tread on here that has a link to a splitter so you can still run both antennas. Ever since I upgraded my deck my radio reception has suffered.. I need to buy the splitter.

You know... I was wondering about that, since it appears there is an antenna of sorts printed onto the passenger rear side glass, almost like a vertical defroster... Thanks!!

Using

the Y plug and adapter allow you to retain the use of the power and diversity antenna after installing the new HU:fro:.

Just to clarify for some. The 4Runners have two antennas. The larger cable is for the main antenna found up front on the electronic mast. The smaller cable is for the 2nd antenna which you can see in your passenger side rear cargo bay window.
