Tech,

Do you have any experience with the vsc/vsc trac/engine light? After reading forums, It can range from a leak, to O2 sensors, to full on catalytic converter. Do you have a place near Clear Lake you could recommend?

Just found this thread. I'm in Cypress as well. Always game for garage days or just tooling around. Sub'ing page for future updates.

Sorry I didn't see your reply! I was replacing a fender and changing brake rotors on the 4runner. On the Bronco was adding an ignition kill switch as a theft deterrent and removing the running boards. There will be several more wrench days happening over the next couple months. I'm in Cypress.

No problem! I am in Cypress as well so feel free to contact me anytime. I got the sliders on and I am very pleased with them They took a little longer than expected though.

I will! Looks great! Don't think I've seen you around town yet, but I'll keep my eye out for ya. Next significant work day will likely be end of January. Hoping to fab a homemade hitchgate tire carrier. That said, I'll give you a heads up when we order steel in case you need any. Bulk orders are cheaper.

HTX - New to the Family 04 4R 4x4

Just did the title transfer on my v6 04 4x4 4R SR5 on Friday.

I'm ready to start the mods. I've been doing my research and can't decide between the OME 3" lift or Toytec 3" coilover/5100s. Seems like either option will be good. Any input? If done a lot of digging around and everyone speaks highly of both? Has anyone ridden in both and can offer insight? or has anyone had any negative experiences with either? Not looking for bashing of the other, just for personal experience.

Additionally, I am new to the game but I would really like to watch or be part of the install. I live in an apartment so I don't have the tools or the know how to do the lift. Would anyone be game to tackle this project and teach me a thing or two about these beautiful beasts of ours. Let me know what you would want in return. Time is valuable I understand that.

I plan to add that bumper about 6 mo down that line, should that affect the lift that I end up going with now?

Houston 4Runners!!!

Where are my Houston 4Runner people??? I'm new to the 4Runner family and need some like minded people to hang out with.
 
From everyone I have talked to, Toytec is said to give the best ride. And yes, if you plan on adding a bumper I would look for springs with a higher rate (that can handle another 100-200 lbs hanging off the front of your rig).

I'm currently running Bilstein shocks and a spacer lift, but after only 3 years on my truck and 98% on road, the bushings on the shocks are disintegrating. (They did much better on my last street truck!) I'm about to take off the spacers and go with Dobisons coils and shocks on all four corners. And why Dobisons? I like being being the lab rat. Not a whole lot of folks runs them (Aussie company) but they have been in business/competing with OME since the 50's.

And I see that it's been said before, but HTX T4R is a good starting point on FB to find more wrench days and groups. There 8s also Houston Overland, SoftRoaders, Houston Toyota Offroad, and more.
