there is mountains in Houston they are just of the female form....lol jkWell, I got a new job and have made the move from Houston to Maine! It was a tough call, but after visiting I am just drawn to the mountains....Houston has NONE!
I am hoping to find some kick ass trail riding and camping up in the New England area. Definitely can't wait to explore the Northeast!

So, I have been wanting a good looking roof rack for quite a while, and, from my previous posts, you can see that I have already wired the 4R for some serious roof lights. No doubt, if I were to buy a roof rack it would be the Gobi. But, I just can't get over the raised front bar. With all the LED light bars coming out, I would have thought that the front would be designed to fit them a little better. In addition, I just want to keep the thing as low as possible and if I load like a long canoe or wood up there I kinda want to sit flat. lastly, I wanted to integrate side lights into the thing so that they would not be hanging out all over.
I therefore decided to build one myself.
I have just one week to get this thing finished! This is because I am stopping at my moms house in Virginia on my way to Maine and will be here only one week. This is my only access to garage space, my tools, and the time that I have between jobs.
Here is what I have so far...
I unloaded all of my tools from the trailer after my Houston - VA trip and kicked off the project.
Drilled in some boards to use as a jig and burned in the mandrel bends
Got my integrated light pods burned in
Its starting to look like a roof rack
To get this thing finished I am definitely working long hours.
How the LED Pods fit in. I ordered and planned on the smaller 1" X 2" 2 LED pods and Bulldog screwed up and sent me the 2" X 2" 4 LED pods. Probably better that way....
Getting the mounting brackets figured out was not easy and really it was just by luck that I found the materials that fit just right. I found some great seals for them too.
I will be burning in the brackets tomorrow....

Thanks for that! I will msg you for sure when I have the time for a trip. I am originally from NOVA and have offroaded all over some local spots there...Dulles, Cardinal, DMV and others. Of course, now those spots are monitored and no wheeling is allowed.

Alright, all done. Here it is!
I got this sucker all leveled up and tacked together while mocked up on the 4R
I positioned the front LED support bar as low as I possibly could to stick with that low profile
I then made a quick template for the wind deflector and decided to burn in the mounts for that
Time to weld it all up!
My pipe bend radius were a little off for the front. So I went ahead and cut a bit out of them.

And after the expanded sheet got burned in....NO MORE WELDING OR CUTTING!!!!
I guess that this is my first official use of the rack!

Camry firewall grommet goes on.
Dimmer circuit connection gets fabed up
90% Complete. I will finish the rest on vehicle.

So yesterday I bench tested the harness and then did a hot check. Hooked it up to power and ran it through its paces Everything looks good for now!
Dimmer circuit works great!
And so I started to slip into place.
Connected in the rear camera cicuit.

I got this thing all painted up and installed!
I used the Duplicolor Truck bed coating and F*&#%in A! does it take a long time to cure! I am literally driving with this thing still wet. I just simply had no more time to wait in VA.
Here it is!
I will be running the wires and installing the lights once up in Maine. I really wanted to run the wires within the tubing, but I just simply did not have the time. Another corner that was cut....
