yosemite tire chain

Hi all,

I'm planning to drive to Yosemite this month and on there web-site that a tire chains is required. Does anybody know what is/are the best option in getting a tire chains in Yosemite.

And also, since I'm on the topic, for the everybody that have visited Yosemite any suggestion on what are the great views to go.

That's odd. When I visited there (or even Tahoe for that matter), it was snow chains or 4wheel drive required. But everyone was required to carry snow chains (4wheel drive or not). I've heard that if conditions require both 4wheel drive and snow chains, they usually close the roads.

If you are going to stay 'on the beaten path', then I suggest all the main spots and water falls on the valley floor...and then if you can make it...go up the mountain (Wawona? Road) to Tunnel View (just before the tunnel) and then Glacier Point (if the road is open). The views are absolutely breath taking. When I visited there, all of the water falls were frozen...looks like one giant crystal chandelier...

Oh, I have these...haven't used the set for the 4Runner, but had used a set on my (former) Jeep in our last snow storm here...it was like a tank...

Chains are only required during storms on vehicles that are not 4wd. Is your 4runner 2wd?

...and even if you have 4wd, you are still required to have 'M&S' rated tires, I believe.

The collection of geysers and ponds near Old Faithful is cool to experience, and if the road is open, get up to Mammoth and check out the old springs up there. But most of the roads will be closed, and even the popular hiking trails will be nearly inaccessible unless you've got a sled or skis.

Thanks for all your response, mine is a 4wd. The site mentioned that tire chain is required to carry even if you have 4wd or a snow tire is install and as jwyshrek also mentioned.

You won't have to worry about snow in Yosemite this year, or the rest of the sierras for that matter.
