My brother is in the market for a wheeler, and wants to buy a Jeep. I want to sway his opinion in favor of a Yota, so help me out! Should he get Yota or Jeep?

yup! im a big fan of toyotas. I personally think they are more solid offroad and more capable with less modding. he ultimately bought a built 87 jeep YJ yesterday:frusty: which is fine because he sold me his clean 2nd gen 4runner, so im not complaining hehe.

If at least he would have went with a TJ. With a YJ he went backwards I think.
Having owned a yj, the jeep was nicer on the road.
Both capable offroad, but my 87 runner has a rear locker which made a massive difference. I found the 4hi in the runner to feel better that the jeeps but, my final choice would be the 1st gen runner.
Even with ifs and absolutely no rock experience, I was able to complete 3 blacks at rausch creek. The runner constantly surprises me.

on the trails his YJ does fine but its pretty built ( 6inch lift, 33'' MTs, locked axles, winch, etc) and one of my second gens (which is fully stock) can still keep up with him.. makes me wonder if it was worth it. hes had it for a couple months now and he has been face down fixing something on it nearly every weekend. he says he hates it so much and wishes he got a yota instead haha. Oh well. What i like about runners is that you can pretty much daily drive them and wheel em too. Dailying a carbed Heep isnt comfortable at all.

On my third Toy, first two were Tacos, now a 4runner. All around it's the most versatile machine. DD, hauling, camping, wheeling. Does it all! When I'm out by myself I love being able to sleep in the back.
Unles you were willing to buy two vehicles, the 4runner or a Taco seem like the obvious choices to cover all the bases.

Versatile is right. Took my rig on a hunting trip a little while back and it was perfect. Hauled an 800lb quad on a trailer, full of camping/hunting gear in the back of the truck on a 9hr drive to Oregon. It was perfect. I folded down the back seats and it was better than sleeping in a tent:becky:

I'm new to the forum... I don't own a 4Runner, YET. I have a 2008 2 door Rubicon. I love it!! But... I am a single dad with two rapidly growing boys. So, the Jeep has to go... The only vehicle that excites me is the 4Runner!
I joined this forum to learn more about these 4Runners. I drove a 2016 Trail Premium last weekend and fell in love!! I know it'll be way better on road. I don't see myself wheeling it as aggressively as the Rubicon, but who knows... Maybe I will.

I started my car search with Wranglers and then I saw I very nice BMW X5 in my price range. I was hooked until I realized how much maintenance was required. Then I stumbled upon this place and am pretty dead set on a Toyota
My friend bought a new Grand Cherokee in 1998.
I bought a new 4Runner SR5 in 1998.
They were about the same price ($33k). My friend would never shut up about how much more advanced his car was than mine. I wasted my money, he claimed.
My brother is still driving my 4Runner, now with 250k miles. Only major break is a new alternator last year. It's been in 5 accidents, had the axle snapped, and the front right shock bent. Still runs great. I tried to buy it back from my brother this summer but he won't give it up.
My friend's Jeep stopped running in 2007. He scrapped it bought a new one. That Grand Cherokee was a POS and he got rid of it almost three years ago. He bought a used 4Runner for 12k, and is much happier.
