Yota wave?

I was out driving this morning and had a lifted FJ wave at me, of course I waved back. But is this a thing with us Toyota guys? I knew it was with jeep, are we doing it too? Wouldn't mind starting to do it.

It was definitely a Subaru thing when I had my STi.. I've tried waving at other T4Rs and get a "wtf are you waving at creeper" look from a soccer mom.. F it, I'll keep waving though!

There are several FJ threads that want to get it started. Not lots of momentum. But generally, modded Toyota guys will wave back if you acknowledge them. It is nothing like being in the Jeep. It is almost a personal afront if you don't wave back.

It may be difficult for the 19,671 FJ owners to start a national trend.

Besides, The Prius owners already wave at me. I think that's what they're doing...

I get waves, and wave, back to modded 4Runners. On my roadtrip down to CA I had a 5th Gen TEP with a gobi rack and light bars run up alongside me and all the passengers waved.

I think most people who mod probably care more about their vehicles than soccer moms. There is a black, stock, TRD PRO across the street from where I live and that guy couldn't give a crap about another 4Runner. dick...

I've traded a few waves when I had my FJ, no waves with the 4R yet, but I'm hoping.

I've also got a classic Saab and a Datsun Z, I've almost had wrecks from waving too hard. Spotting either of those in the wild is a rare thing indeed.

I got a 5th Gen wave yesterday in Hood River from a nicely lifted white 5th gen. Always a nice thing to do.... spread cheer.

Never get a return wave, waved again yesterday at a lifted Black in Smokey Point, WA, no return. Maybe because I was dirty, unshaven, and dressed like the Phil Roberson, coming home from a bear hunt. No bear this weekend.

Thanks to this forum I keep looking at other 4Runners to see if I can find the T4R.org sticker. In an attempt not to be rude and caught staring I will wave if the driver makes eye-contact, sticker or no sticker.

Some non-Toyota folks around here with 4x4's will wave.

I think it's the appreciation for the common interest in off-roading and it being so difficult to find such places around here.

I have learned to not initiate a wave at the soccer-mom 4Runner drivers. They generally have no idea what the wave was about.

I have waved at some modded FJ's too but they seem dumbfounded as to my wave. At the same time I have even had delivery truck drivers pull up next to me on the roads with a thumbs-up on the 4Runner.

To sum it up it ends up being a case-by-case basis around here.

It's a Miata thing as well. Get tons of waves by other miata drivers.

I try to wave at other 4runners, usually first gens and they wave back.

Socal so you can pretty much guess the demographic for 3rd and higher generations and all the 2nd gens are beaters.

Only t4r sticker I have seen I pulled up next to and waived from my miata. His facial expressing said it all...:nono:

Mostly stares or glares (?) from the usual soccer mom. One wave from a Tacoma with a CVT tent which was cool. Not a bunch of modded Trails over this way. Mostly Limiteds (see soccer mom), or SR5's on spacers, with bro'd out wheels. One or two stock pros, no waves from them either because they're dicks like LawnDart said.

I get a lot of glares from Land Rovers. Jeeps are mostly people who don't offroad even in the slightest so they don't give a crap. But the LR guys, goddamn do they give me the stink eye.

I'd be pissy too if my ride sucked and was always in for major repairs.

Yeah, I don't the 'yota wave will catch on. Only time I tried was when I saw a badass 5th Gen Limited with a Shrockworks front bumper coming around a corner. I waved and was greeted by the blank stares of a group of high school girls.
