I don't believe you - When I was in my Land Rovers most other Land Rovers didn't even notice me..... And most Land Rover owners not only don't see other Land Rovers much less 4Runners.
And just to let you know: Land Rovers are not in the shop nearly as often as 4Runner guys say they are.....

Maybe this pertains to defenders but goddamn are those broken...a lot.

I'm still enough of a newb that the novelty hasn't worn off so my 4Runner radar is always on.
I've given waves but only got one back from an older gen who followed me then rode in my blind spot presumably checking me out, and as he pulled beside me, my wife, 2 kids and I all waved (I ordered them to lol) and he reciprocated with a hearty thumbs up.
A few other times I've been paced and checked out by older gens but never got the wave or eye contact.
I once exchanged nods with a Sequoia -- that was cool.

I wave to the ones that I see Mods on, mainly because it creeps the soccer Mom's out around this way, lol. I think the question here though is, why wouldn't we wave? :biggrin1:

Coming from the 2 door wrangler world I'm finally getting used to not waving, found myself accidentally waving to a couple of 4runners and they looked at me like I was on something, like the 4 door jeeps, it's less and less, hmmm - I support waving 
I may be part of the problem. I was in Corvallis and Bend Oregon a few weeks ago and a black 5th gen passed me. My wife said, "he just waved at you" but it was too late, i missed it. I'm not use to 5th gen guys doing the wave.
If I see a modded Toyota, I generally wave. I'm just not use to getting the wave back. There was a very nice 4th gen in Lakeworth TX, I must have waved to him 15 times in the last 4 years...NEVER got a wave back.
I say, wave....... if it reciprocated, GREAT.... if not better luck next time.

I wave at any modded Toy truck or any land cruiser 80 series and older. Love giving/receiving the wave in my 80 series, can't wait to start doing it in my 5th gen.

Not 5 minutes ago, I had a modified 4th gen pull up next to me at a light with CO plates here in OKC. He looked at my rig up and down. I gave him a casual friendly wave and he just stared at me, like WTF are you waving at. First time I ever had that happen. We were about the same age. A few years back, that would have never happened. People are changing and not for the better. Too bad.
I can still take you to places around here where everyone still waves no matter what you drive, but sadly those areas are disappearing.

I've noticed it's getting less friendly out there all over. Lots of reasons for it, but it's still too bad.
I took a trip to South central Iowa last year cutting through Missouri. Not knocking MO at all, but almost the moment I crossed the line in to Iowa, people started waving at me. It's like someone threw a switch. It makes you feel good when that happens for no reason other than someone being friendly.

The fact is, it is simply getting too crowded with wannabe "pro" f^cktards. Too many d!ckheads look the part but don't know sh!t, then they are rude to boot.
There are also folks that know-a-lot but have dealt with so many of the above, they have become rude too.
It sucks truly it does.

When I drive my '71 Chevy truck, I wave at any classics on the road. I also get a lot of thumbs up from random people and can't pump gas without getting into a 20 minute conversation with a stranger.
When I drive my '86 S10 Blazer 4X4, I wave at anyone with a Generation-1 S10 since keeping an S10 running for 20-30 years is very hard to do.
Since I just got my 4Runner and it is still bone stock, I wouldn't wave since every 4Runner/Wrangler/Land Rover in my town is a soccer mom. If I saw a nicely moded 4X4 I might give thumbs up out of respect unless it is a jeep.
