You think the U.S will ever go to the metric system?

Is the U.S the only country that still measures distance in Miles? Supposedly I hear England still utilizes the english measurement system but all of the vehicles in England measure distance in kilometers.

I wonder why the U.S has not adopted the metric system?

I'm 10 years older than you and it was fed to me too. I think they were telling us in 15-20 years from the mid '70s.

The metric system is very easy to use.... Lived in Germany for four years, got very use to it...

The metric system is far better then the English system but it's not used because of the economic and political cost of changing, not stupidity. The whole Country would have to re-tool.

It's all in what you get used to. Since I work with people from all over the world, I can deal with both pretty well, and translate between them.

That was right on track till Reagan killed it. Some may remember back then that there were several speed signs on major highways that had both Kilometers and miles on them based on federal requirements when old signs needed replacement.

Had an '85 BMW 535i back in the day. I guess BMW thought everything was going to be metric because the thing had these terrible Michelin TRX metric radials on metric sized rims. They were technologically out of date back then, horribly expensive to replace. Only tire that fit it was the TRX. The size was 390 mm which didn't correspond to any common size like 14, 15, or 16 inch. I sold the spare (never on the ground) to some guy desperate to find these turd tires. And you thought the Dunlop AT20s were lousy! The BMWs had them, but some of the Mustangs did, too.

Not sure if Michelin makes these bricks anymore. Last I heard, they'd wait until there was enough demand then make a batch. Thanks Michelin for that fine French technology.

Last time I drove I-19 from Tucson to Nogales, I realized that the signs were all metric, no English equivalents. That was about 5 years ago, so I presume that has not changed.

We were on our way to a meeting in Nogales, and I thought we were going to be late because the signs never said anything about being metric....or I just missed it.

Yes, I was in Tubac (south of Tucson) in February and now that you mentioned it, the signs were in kilometers and they changed just outside of Tucson... Funny, I remember pointing that out to my wife last FEB, but never thought about it until you mentioned it...
