Yeah,it's at an angle but there's definetly a big diff in clearance underneath since even stock for stock there's a couple inch difference in ground clearance between my year and the '03-'04. Yes,the rear windows line up but the bumpers aren't really close. The bodies of the 4th gens are taller than the 3rd gens so you can't really compare that either.
I've wheeled with stock 4th gens and mine definelty doesn't drag the underneath as often on the trails.

Is that Coney Island off 285? Drive by there all the time, not brave enough to stop and eat though.
Despite it seeming like one of every 20 cars in Littleton is a 4Runner, first time I parked next to stock 3rd gen.
You are so right and others in the rest of the US would be blown away by how many 4Runners you see (every gen but 3rd and 4ths are the most popular) even if you drive just a mile. I've been at a stoplight more than once where every generation is represented so yes,you need a little customization to stand out a little.
