seafoam was good stuff 20 years ago lol i would not suggest it, its very very bad for o2's, cat, plugs, and rings, remember you need to change your oil right after you use this stuff, it gets past your rings and into your oil and turns into water. use B&G products, if you have access to a local dealer its 44 bucks, totally worth it. and just to make clear I do use seafoam on all my other vehicles just because i dont really care but my runner gets nothing but the best. rock on dudes

BG44k is POTENT. It's the only gas additive that will damage engine bearings if used too frequently, its recommended for 15k mile intervals at the earliest. Several manufactures even have a part number for the stuff, so its recognized industry wide as a quality product. Don't overdo it.

well I did the seafoam a few days ago.
When I did the intake manifold vacum injection nothing realy happend (no smoke or anything ).
But then I decided to suck some through the brake booster and my truck smoked like hell as I reved it alittle , neighbors might have though it was on fire lol.
seemed like it cleaned something sucking it through the brake booster.. :shrug:

Why do you think that was the case?
I got a can tonight and plan to try it out tomorrow. Planning on using the hose in this thread rather than the brake booster.

There's no need to change the oil if just using in the PCV hose right?
I put some through today and got some nice smoke. Time will tell if it was worth it.

You're fine, the Seafoam FAQ says that there are no negative effects to your oil, no matter how it's used.

Yeah I read that. But then everywhere online is like "change your oil or your car will explode." Well not exactly, but some people freak out about it. Ha.
I'm probably gonna change my oil within the next month anyway. I guess I'll just keep my eye on it.

I think this is a case of reading too much on the internet. Like if you have some cold symptoms or something and you read around on the internet and are convinced you have some completely unrelated disease.
I thought throttle response was better for sure, but who knows. Maybe it's in my head. I thought it had more power going up hills tonight too.
Did you get better mileage?

i've been hearing this seafoam stuff for the past couple years. I bought a bottle one time and was going to do it after months of reading reviews and such. I was skeptical so i just dumped it into my gas tank.
i'm just thinking...i have 280k miles on my rig. probally alot of carbon build up. if this seafoam does work..where does all my carbon go? because not all of it turns into the white smoke. i'm just a lil worried something can clog downstream..if ya know what i mean

Yeah. People were saying there was a possibility of larger chunks of carbon breaking off and possibly getting stuck or something like that. Maybe clogging the cats.
I don't think you should worry about that though. As long as you take it slow I think it will work pretty well.

It's not like it breaks solid chunks of carbon off.
It actually liquifies it into the oil, where it is filtered into the oil filter and contained.
So, by common sense, it's a good idea to change your oil afterward. Using Sea Foam as an oil treatment, pour it into your engine through the valve cover like you would with oil, drive it a hundred miles or so (the longer you run it, the more it cleans) and perform your oil change. That's the most effective way of cleaning your crank case, freeing sticky lifters, etc.

If you read the can, it also says specifically that you can use it for cleaning (use more than recommended) or for "long term use" (use less than recommended if leaving in permanently). I just dumped some in my friend's engine oil because when I looked under the cap, I saw caked on junk. Hopefully it will help break some of that up.

if you guys want to do a motor oil flush, i recommend gunk. although, proceed with caution. there some internal components that, over time, has become 'accommodated' to the sludge build up. the sludge helps to keep otherwise loose parts from rattling, and it may act as a sealant if any gasket is ruptured. this is info from other boards that i've gather before i went off to use gunk myself
from experience, after doing the flush, i didn't feel any noticeable increase in performance or response. i monitored my oil levels for some time after to see if any leakage occurred once the sludge was removed. my oil level remained constant. i did notice my engine is more noise, there's something that rattles..and it's persistent with the engine rpm. so did gunk do anything at all i wonder... not sure, although, i did smell something burning shortly after putting gunk in and revving my engine.
i chose to it because it did have a questionable past... as a board member previously worded. otherwise, it's not necessary. oil changes at regular intervals are good enough. because motor oil nowadays all have some detergent in it, and it helps to keep sludge in suspension and from building up.... waiting for the next oil change to get rid of it.

I'm the first to admit, I'm not exactly a "patient" person when it comes to looking for info on something I'm working on at that moment.. Don't like the idea of wasting an hr or 2 on a computer lookin' for an answer for a ? that I have now BUT, I'm workin' on that and will start "searching" for related ?'s before wastin' space on this forum, which, by the way, has proven to be extremely helpful in all aspects and I appreciate every bit of "help" that I've received..
