Well. Having a steady stream of bad luck recently with the truck.


Started with a mod I did to my front blinkers and the DRL. I haven’t showed it yet because I was waiting until I finished something else to show it all together. But short story, when I press the brakes the drivers side front blinker goes off. I’m thinking it’s a short in the cheap Chinese wiring that I did it with. So still have to fix that.


Then when I put in the new radio, the bracket and everything I did made the screen stick out kind of far. So I went back in and modified the brackets so that the screen sits more flush with the radio bezel. Also adjusted the position of the ac controls so they looked better. That all actually came out great and without issue.

But then putting it back together and putting my AC control knobs back on, I don’t know how but broke off the damn rod on the temperature control.

And then yesterday I noticed the damn front bumper flare has fallen off somewhere. These were riveted on. I must not have done it good after wrapping them.

And now I’m going to need a new battery very soon. I’ve noticed It’s been struggling to start. And then finally today it wouldn’t start and had to get it jumped.

Always have hated the factory battery tie down

Bought this box off eBay specifically for an Optima battery.

Then for a more clean look that I’m going for in the engine bay, also added this battery box around it thats from a Volkswagen

New headlights, only the 3rd set I have built. This time around I used JDM Toyota Headlights.
The aftermarket ones I have had have all been junk.
They would break, and when aligned correctly, the glass was protruding out and not lined up the body lines.

With the JDM headlights, the glass attaches to the body of the headlight, and the inside reflector part is what does the aligning.
So the glass is always flush and clean with the lines of the grille, corner lights, and filler panel.

Also the adjusters are made of metal, and not cheap plastic.

Also no triple nipple on the front of the glass

Painted the reflector matte black and then added some gloss black mesh that matches the grille/lower grille/hood scoop.
Shrouds were also painted gloss black, with matte stripes on the side

Replaced and rerouted some vacuum lines to clean up the engine bay a little.
Not too noticeable but it was some that went across the top.

Also routed the spark plug wires around the rear.

And then cleaned the engine bay for one of the few times ever.

Was able to get some of the bumper caps from a forum member since Bushwacker doesn't sell seperately.
Got that wrapped and installed, making sure it was nice and tight this time.

And then was able to get some from Limited/Sport Edition rear mudflaps for free off Instagram. The drivers side was scraped but did some bodywork and then wrapped them and added some of the rubber trim.

The Bushwacker flares are slightly slimmer than the Limited/Sport Edition flares, so it required some trimming and modification to get them to be flush but I am content on with how they fit.

Wow man, your build is awesome. I have a 5th gen, but owned a 3rd gen 2000 SR5 sport in the past and was just cruising through the thread. I'm pretty wowed by this. Awesome work man. It's amazing.

I have no idea how popular the forum is anymore, after photobucket killed the forums with their image hosting crap I faded away from here. Work is slow so I am going to try and fix and update my build thread over the next couple of days.

The ones after that were all in Joshua Tree.
