Zaino + 4Runner

Hey guys. I just got my 4Runner a couple weeks ago and have been waiting on my Zaino to get here so I could start from scratch. Went to the good ol "scratch & wash" late so I could handwash with a bucket like they say not to do :p I started last night at 1030 and got done at 0430 this morning. It was worth all the bugs I had to put up with though! Heres what I did:
Wash with Dawn
Z18 Clay with Z7 lube
Wash with Z7
Z5 Pro w/ZFX
Z6
Z2 Pro w/ZFX
Z6
Z2 Pro w/ZFX
Z6
Z2 Pro on wheels, Z16 on tires, Megs Natural Shine on the engine and exterior trim. I even Zainoed the windows! I wish that I had some Z8 to try, I might get some when I run out of the Z16. Silver is a hella hard color to make stand out. I could read license plates on my hood though :D The metallic really pops out alot more now. I am happy, here some pics tell me what you all think!

Since it's brand new, you shouldn't need any more Z5. some Z2 should be all that it needs.

I dont see what all the hype is about zaino. I have been using mothers products for 15 years. Never had a better shine. Easy to use, cost 1/4 of zaino, takes alot less time. I can do the runner in 1 hour if its clean. A little longer if its been through bad weather.

If you can't see or feel the difference between Mothers and Zaino, then you should just stick with what you're using now...

I can't comment on Mother's products since I've not used them before. But, as you can read in other threads, I used Meguiar's for years then tried Zaino's. The difference -- to me -- was amazing. Made the 97 Camry look like new -- most people are surprised to hear how old it is when they ask. It really did a great job removing the swirls left by Meguiar's.

It doesn't take very long with the Zaino's, either. I put it on, and usually by the time I finish applying it, it's ready to remove...just like I found with other products.

Time

Well on the issue of time. Thats what first strayed me away from Zaino in the first place, but when I got pretty deep into detailing my Z I would spend hours on it with Megs. It took me 6 hours for the FULL initial detail. I mean top to bottom, not just throwing a coat of wax/polish on there. I think that is the misconception with regards to Zaino. It took me only an hour to do the final 2 coats of Z2. But to do the first major detail to prep for follow on wax jobs will take time no matter what you use. I just didnt see how doing the above steps with Zaino is any different than using Megs "5-Step" paint care regimin (sp?) Lets even do an easy one, Deep Crystal, you have DC 1,2,3 Ive done all those plus clay and its taken me longer than 6 hours! What about using a PC? Well theres say 83 followed by 7 topped with Nxt, now add that on to claying and washing and you have a nice evening right there as well, plus I just lay Zaino on the glass and other bits of trim. With all that considered, it really evens out IMO as far as time is concerned. Now the money issue! Well Zaino is pretty pricey stuff, but I went through a bottle of Nxt liquid in about 3 months (I was a fanatic with my Z :D) It took me less than an ounce of Z2 to do 2 coats, so that kind of evens out as well. So figure .5 oz to do one coat per month, the Zaino should last me about 2 years. Thats even enough for me! Oh well, Im happy with Zaino, and the results! This is my $0.02. Thanks for the compliments!!!

If you need a powered buffer while using Zaino, something is VERY VERY wrong. It takes NO effort to put on or remove. If you find it is taking you a lot of effort to use the product, your using it wrong (most likely using WAY too much).

The only time you would even think about using a buffer with Zaino would be when using ZPC, even then it's overkill.

:biggrin2:

The only time I'd use something like a PC is if you already have damage and are trying to fix it with a mild abrassive.

Just a friendly FYI...

Zaino's does not get applied or taken off with a buffer.

Polish, which is what you use to get scratches out before you seal/wax, gets applied with a buffer.

If I'm working on a car that has more than faint scrathes then they get taken out with Griot's Garage polishes and a Porter Cable buffer and THEN I hand apply Zaino's.

Yes, on a new(er) car you dont need a PC unless your physically limited Id say. Zaino is very very easy to apply. I can do 2 coats in an hour! The prep is where the hard work is on the other hand. That does go for all wax/polish/sealant. Once your paint is like glass it will be easy to seal the paint no matter what you use! I am really digging Zaino. Im about to move to a new apt that has a car wash stall on site, so mine will be clean at all times! I think they have moved their dist center to KS to make it easier for the Western part of the US to get there stuff, so it may take a few days. I got mine in 3 days. Well worth it :D
