Zerk fitting throws up

I decided to lube drive shaft again today on my '08 Limited V6 4x4. Have one of those grease guns with a flexible shaft. Even with T4R on ramps it is like fighting with a one-armed octopus. Always have to put pressure on the hose against the zerk fitting to make sure it doesn't pop off. Hate this job! Anyway, I started pumping grease into the fitting on the rear shaft for the slip yoke. I pulled the hose off after about 8 pumps to check progress and the grease I pumped in started slowly oozing back out! It's like the button on the zerk was stuck partially open. Anyone else come across this? Solution? Many thanks.

Two options.

1) Using an automotive/dental pick or small finishing nail gently work the pin on the end of zerk fitting back and forth and see if you can convince it to close and seal. I have had luck with a shot of WD-40 at the opening when holding the pin in to free up the debris holding it open.

2) Depending on location replace zerk fitting.

Happens to our equipment at work all the time, Just replace it, cheap and easy.

I have the same problem! Where can i get replacement fittings from? Sorry. Don't mean to thread jack ya.

most any auto parts store carries replacements

Those fittings have itty bitty springs that go bad. Best option is replacing.
