zero point calibration for 06 4runner?

I have my vsc on/off, trac lights, skid and abs lights lit up all the time now on my dash and would like to try this to see if it will do the trick.

I have read the procedure for the 03-04 pre CAN 4runners and for the 5th generation 4runner's. I've had no luck finding the procedure for 05+ 4runners, would it be the same as the 5th generation 4runners?
This seemed to happen a little while after I changed my front brakes, wonder if i may of damaged my abs wire in the process.

Teqeeler, let me know if you find a method that works. I searched & couldn't find one; thought I had done it before???
The '03-'04 method doesn't work on mine.
 
what about parking on a level surface, and unhooking the battery for a bit?

I had those lights, and then did my timing belt. the battery was disconnected for a few hours. that was a few weeks, and 500+ miles ago, no lights since...
 
It's been some time since this thread is opened but I'd like to update it having problems with obtaining the zero point on the '07 4Runner.
I think I searched through all related topics but could not find any procedure described by users for 2007 versions. Earlier procedures do not apply.
The reason I want to do zero point calibration is VSC TRAC, VSC OFF, ABS, SLIP lights appear some times when making turns. They're off when the ignition is switched on again. CEL/MIL always off.

This is what I found in the BC-21/22 for '06 manuals:
2. Clear zero point calibration.
(a) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(b) Connect and disconnect terminals TS and CG of the DLC3 4 times or more within 8 seconds. (according to the pics: TS - pin 12, CG - pin 4)/
(c) Check that the warning light indicates the normal system code.

3. Perform zero point calibration of yaw rate and acceleration sensor.
(a) Procedures for test mode:
(1) Turn ignition switch off.
(2) Connect terminals TS and CG of the DLC3.
(3) Check that the steering wheel is in the straight-ahead position and the shift lever in P position.
(4) Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
(5) Keep the vehicle in a stationary condition on a level surface for 2 seconds or more.
(6) Check that VSC TRAC warning light is blinking in test mode.
NOTICE: The VSC TRAC warning light stays on when obtaining the zero point.

I managed to get to the 3. (6) when ABS and VSC blinking but VSC does not want to stay on and therefore I'm not able to finish this procedure successfully.

I'd appreciate any feedback.
 
Did you ever have any luck on this? I lifted my 2008 a little more and now the VSC seems very touchy. Just want to get as much information as possible before I attempt this.

Yes, I'm not having these lights on any more. I'm pretty sure that clearing zero point helped (steps in "2. Clear zero point calibration."). I created a special switch to close TS and CG pins to make it easier.
Try this and see. Good luck.
 
To add to this, I recently had my 4runner aligned after I installed some Bilstein 6112's. The printout looks good, it still drifts a little to the right, just like before, but the steering wheel was a little off. Today I corrected the steering wheel position by adjusting the left and right tie rods just a hair each side until I was happy with the steering wheel position. Immediately I noticed once the wheel was straight, the VSC was no longer touchy around corners. I may still try to do a ZPC but that will be after the FJ summit in case I screw something up.

Good to hear. So did you ever resolve the issue in Step 3 (6) saying the VSC TRAC warning light should stay on? I've got all 4 lights on mine with no CEL (been on for a while) and may give this a shot this week.

No, maybe I did sth. wrong. It's quite tricky to count the blinkings. Next time it shows up I'll try this procedure on an empty mall's parking lot.
 
Thanks for the info! Unfortunately, my ABS TRAC and VSC still comes on intermittently. I've aligned the car and reset steering angle via our fancy alignment machine. I've tried this ZPC which i've seen countless write ups and youtube videos about. Now just reviewing the information with our scanner I'm still showing 1150 degrees at the steering angle sensor when the wheel is straight. Anyone know how i can go about testing the sensor itself? i don't want to just take the "shotgun" approach and just start replacing parts for nothing.

I just had this problem on my 04. All 3 lights.

Took it in to get struts done, they broke the ABS/speed sensor harness on the driver's side. Replacing that fixed the ABS light.

Get that done first, then look at VSC and trac.
 
I kept having this issue on my 04. I thought I was resetting it, but the 2 lights would come back on after driving about 10 feet.

I copied this from a Tundra forum, he's talking about the youtube video. I kept forgetting to do part 3 - you should see the lights flash rapidly and then switch the ignition back off (they'll just keep flashing), on mine it was the ABS, VSC and trac.

I like how this guy performs and explains the ZPC. Instead of trying to jam a paper clip in and out of the ports for pins 4 & 12 four times in 8 seconds, he actually uses 2 separate paper clips and plugs them all the way to the rear of the ports prior to turning the ignition to "on". Then he simply touches the two wires together four times in rapid succession. I think that's a WAY better alternative to trying to actually jam a modified paper clip in and out in succession. He said your panel will light up like a Christmas tree. Then he said to turn the key back to the "off" position.

Step 2: Then he said to turn the key back to the "on" position, and you will see the "TRAC" and "VSC off" lights will be illuminated for about 15 seconds. He said they will then shut off. Wait for 2 seconds after they shut off and you turn the key back to the "off" position.

Step 3: It's after this that you short pins 4 & 12 and leave them shorted when you turn the ignition back to the "on" position. He said he left them shorted for about 20 seconds before he turns the key back to the "off" position. This will successfully accomplish the ZPC.

I think "step 2" is the step that everyone who doesn't successfully perform the ZPC leaves out. I haven't done that step before. I've been skipping from step 1 to step 3. Maybe that's why I'm not successful in my ZPC.

I will try that and see. I'm assuming before I start ANY of the steps I need to reset my battery first. And after I perform the ZPC, I need to reset the steering angle sensor by parking on a level surface, making sure my wheels and steering wheel are pointed straight forward, then lifting the "-" side of the battery terminal for 2 seconds or more. Then re-terminate the terminal lug. I'm assuming this should be the final step necessary for the entire process if all is done correctly.

I am having this problem with my 2008

vsc flashing
Skid on
abs on

Following above procedure could not complete that step as well.

This happened after the battery was disconected for changing the timing belt.

Any suggestions welcome.

So the timing belt was the easy part? wow....

Zero Point Calibration

The video at the top of this thread works for my 04. Whenever the dealership tests my system it sets off the VSC track light, etc. So I just reset it like this. Thanks!
 
I just completed this process on my 03 and it worked perfectly. I used some wire I had from my 06 headlight swap and wrapped it around each paper clip that was put in OBD Port. Made touching wires together very easy. Followed Instructions.

Your dealership's is using the wrong OBD2 meter. That is why its clearing the VSC/track cont. data. Next time have them use a compatible meter.
 
My 06 has the VSC Trac, slip, and check engine lights on.

I put in some old gas out of ignorance and it caused the lights to come on. My reader was getting error codes PO441 and 455. I replaced my gas cap and reset the error codes, but VSC Trac and Slip indicators are still coming on. Firestone told me I needed to replace my EVAP Cannister, and the cost would be close to $900, parts and labor. I declined.

So I've since put in 2 fuel stabilizers (not together, separate fill-ups), with the highest octane fuel at the gas station, but no luck. I will probably try denatured alcohol next to clear any moisture in the engine, if that's the problem.

I've tried the zero point calibration, but I'm not sure if the basic copper wires I've been using have been correct. Even so, I've not had any luck thus far. I feel like if I could perform it correctly, it would fix the problem.

Because I know the problem is from the bad gas I used. Has anyone had anything similar to this, and can recommend me a proper diagnostic wire to connect the terminals with? Please and thank you.
