Zero Point Calibration not working

Odd, yeah I did read that if the abs light blinks a certain pattern and another light blinks after that it is telling you a code of a problem. But mine is not. ABS works fine because I tested it in the snow the other day. I am going to try this solution and see what happens tonight at around 6pm. I will post back of what happens and what I found.

okay so I tried it again following the steps exactly and not disconnecting it after the 4 shorts and still no luck. When I did that, the trac off light went away and both abs and vsc trac lights were blinking (ABS faster than VSC light when blinking) and I also noticed the cruise control light blinking and the airbag light on the instrument cluster were lighting up as well. I couldnt complete the process.

I only noticed the VSC OFF and TRAC OFF lights come on when I used my bluetooth OBD2 scanner thing and when I had it plugged in, the vehicle would show both those lights but when I moved the car in drive or reverse the TRAC OFF light turned off but the VSC TRAC light stayed on and both would stay lit when I came to a stop. I unplugged it again the obd2 bluetooth scanner and now the both stay on regardless if the vehicle is moving or not..

I think I am going to have to take it in to a shop for them to fully reset it. Any other ideas? I don't want to have to take it in and spend my money on something like this if I dont have to.

The only other thing I could offer would be to try disconnecting your battery for 10 minutes or so to reset everything. You may have to reinitialize the sunroof and rear window, plus radio presets, after you do that, but it might clear up whatever is causing the ZPC to fail. If that fails, I think it's time to head for the dealer.

I think I will have to take it in. I called a couple of my friends to see if they have a scan tool that has the option to re calibrate through the tool itself but no luck. I am going to take it in after I get my 2 Inch front leveling spacer and new tires and rims installed and once I get it aligned I will take it in to a shop that's NOT the stealership and specialize in Toyota and see what they can do for me. It's not bothering me too much other than the face I slide around when I go to the snow, but the season is almost over so I think I can hold out for a bit. Thank you guys for the help! If anyone has any other options please let me know.

It says "4 or more", maybe try to hit it a couple extra times? 6-7 times.

This is the method I use. #4 and #14 later T4R use #12

Parked flat and level, steering wheel straight.

1. Ensure the shift lever is in Park.

2. Turn the ignition switch ON.

3. Using SST 09843–18040 (paper clip), repeat a cycle of short and open between terminals Ts and CG of DLC3 4 times or more within 8 seconds.
Verify that the VSC indicator light is lit indicating the recorded zero point is erased.

4. Turn the ignition switch OFF.

5. Be sure the terminals Ts and CG of DLC3 are disconnected.

6. Turn the ignition switch ON.

7. Check that the VSC warning light goes off about 15 seconds after the ignition switch is turned ON.

8. After ensuring that the VSC warning light remains OFF for 2 seconds, turn the ignition switch OFF.

9. Connect the terminal Ts and CG of DLC3 using SST 09843–18040.

10. Turn the ignition switch ON.

11. After turning the ignition switch ON, check that the VSC warning light is lit for about 4 seconds and then starts quick blinking at 0.13 second intervals.

12. After ensuring the blinking of the VSC warning light for 2 seconds, turn the ignition switch OFF.

13. Remove the SST from terminals Ts and CG of DLC3.

Drive the vehicle to confirm there are no re–occurring lights or DTCs.

Has worked for me numerous times.
BTW if you disconnect the battery with a ODB reader connected (ScanGuage2 in my case, and 2004 v6) it will set off the VSC lights.

could not see what year your truck is, but if its an 05, then its slightly different, i had problems doing the zpc on my 05, until i came across a post by a memeber, the 05 requires a slight change, go through my posts, you will see what i did, if you have an 05

edit: for an 05, use pin 12, instead of pin 14

I forgot to post that. I have a 2003. I did read about the change for the 05 and newer models. I don't understand why my truck is not accepting it. I have had a 203 in the past and it had this issue but the first try that I did the zpc it worked. I am dumbfounded on why this one wont take it. I wont ever plug that cheap OBD2 BT thing in my truck ever again though.

Yeah I used those exact pins in the picture, 4 and 14. When I am performing step number 3 however, everytime it is connected for the split second the VSC OFF / TRAC OFF go away while it is connected but then CRUISE CONTROL blinks, the airbag picture blinks and the ABS starts blinking. Ive never seen this before.

Hi Earthrealm. I saw this post but could not find the post you referred to. I have an 05 4.7 4Runner that I need to do a zero point calibration with and it seems the 05 was in the middle of things changing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

for an 05, use pin #12, and not pin #14.

I just had to do this on my 04 after hooking up a scanner to reset a TPMS fault. I get so much information from this website so I wasn’t surprised when I typed in “zero point calibration” and was redirected back to my favorite T4R website!! Thanks so much to everyone who gives out their knowledge. I appreciate it and so do so many others.

Why do you think a zero point calibration will fix the underlying problem that activated the code?

I can’t remember the actual code but the scanner I use had a description of the fault stating the yaw tilt sensor needed a zero point calibration. Then I researched that. Google stated that 04 and older 4runners and possibly other models had a possibility of that coming up when an ODB 2 scanner was hooked up. I then typed in zero point calibration and it directed me to this thread. I knew it had to be something I did with my scanner since I only had a TPMS fault and I have never had VSC lights on in the past. The lights weren’t on when you start the vehicle but the second you put it into park or drive and moved the vehicle an inch both VSC lights would come on.

Just a quick question concerning the zero point calibration, people keep referencing pins 4 & 14, but my chart shows pins 4 & 12???? Am I looking at somethinmg different here, or does the pin location change with vehicle model year??? I have a 2006 that I need to calibrate but don't like the idea of making smoke by plugging in the wrong pin location

Toyota changed the OBDII protocols in 2005. Pre 2005, the correct pins were 4 and 14. Post 2005 the correct pins are 4 and 12. If you have a 2005 it could be either, depending on mfg date.
