Zero point calibration troubles

Please help.

So i honestly don't remember when or what caused my lights to come on, but they have been on for the past 8-9 months. (The VSC TRAC & TRAC OFF)

I tried this a little while ago, maybe 30 minutes. I followed the directions of TSB BR005-03 (I have a 2003 SR5 2WD V8) and I found that TSB On Toyota 120, and according to what I read since I have a 2003 I have the older protocol (the ISO instead of the CAN) and that is what TSB BR005-03's directions use, from what I understand.

Now after shorting it 4 times within 8 seconds, its the ABS light that flashes, not the VSC. The Trac light goes off.

Can someone tell me why it is the ABS light and not the VSC? After going through, turning it off after disconnecting, and turning it back in, off and reconnecting, the ABS light is the one quick flashing, when it should be the VSC.

PLEASE HELP! Any & all help is appreciated.

I had a similar problem. When trying the Zero Point Calibration, the ABS light flashed instead of VSC. After ABS light flashed a few times, the VSC light flashed a couple times. What I found after reading through the service manual is that this sequence of flashing lights is a code for a fault in the system (yaw sensor, etc.).

In my case, the ABS light flashed 3 times, then the VSC light flashed once. Code = 31. The service manual has a lookup table that says a code of 31 is triggered by a fault in the front right hand speed sensor circuit. I had stretched this wire when doing my lift and repaired it, but apparently the repair had failed. I replaced the wire and the problem was solved.

For testing procedure, refer to document 038004.pdf in the service manual sticky in this forum.

For the front speed sensor testing procedures, refer to document 0380011.pdf in the service manual sticky.

From the service manual:

I screwed with this on a clients vehicle not long ago. Followed the TSB and other sources. Guess what? they marked the wrong pins on the OBDII connector that you're supposed to jump. I can't remember exactly which ones I ended up getting to work... maybe post a pic and it will jog my memory. I remember spending a good few hours trying to figure it out. Just kept jumping the lights and ABS/brake lights would flash.

I remember leaving them connected with key off. Keyed on, VSC and trac flashed for a second then flashed rapidly. it worked.
 
Jumping in here, same issue just happened on my '03 Limited T4R with 109K.

There is no CEL, but TechStream tells me the VSC ECU has a DTC C1234 and the ZPC won't reset the lights. Does the Yaw sensor fail that often?

I think I will try and use contact cleaner on the YAW sensor plug and the ABS connector just for kicks.

There are some used Yaw sensors on Ebay for <$200. Has anyone gone that route? Most are already high-mileage wreck pulls. I wonder if that is just kicking the can down the road....
 
Bumping this thread with my update on my C1234 code.

I ended up buying both a used skid control ecu and a yaw sensor from ebay. $100 ea. I replaced the ecu first, thinking that it made more sense that the ecu was forgetting it's ZPC than the yaw sensor actually going bad.

Success! It's been 3 weeks and no VSC lights. I have exercised the heck out of the VSC/ABS etc, trying to get it to error out again. Normally it would error out as soon as the VSC kicked in. Nothing yet.

I'm a happy camper now with a spare yaw sensor....
 
I'm resurrecting this thread due to the fact I am having the same issue (VSC TRAC/VSC OFF) lights on. An ABS scan tool showed C1234 "Malfunction in Yaw Rate Sensor" or something like that. Is the general consensus that I should replace the skid control ecu first but have a yaw rate sensor handy too?
 
I recently had a similar scenario. I had the C1234 and some other C codes. Zero point calibration wasn't working for me. I replaced the "stoplight switch" by the brake pedal due to 1 of those codes. That cleared my ABS light. I had a P0456 too, so I replaced my gas cap which cleared my check engine light. That got me down to just the VSC and skid lights. At that point, the zero point calibration procedure worked.

Your case might be different, but replacing the skid control ECU worked for me. I have only had to re-do the ZPC once since I replaced the ECU, but that was due to upgrading the suspension. You might want to do this fix one step at a time; a used ECU should be around $100 on eBay.
