OP- Are you trying to say that the Zombie Apocalypse is null due to the fact that the Mayans predicted the end of the earth on 21 Dec 2012, but thanks to Julius Caesar who in 45 B.C. created this odd thing called Leap Year? Lets skip the math and just agree that were already past that date according to the Mayan calendar:sobbing:. So they were wrong, were still here, but that doesn't mean it's not coming!
So I'm going straight to Walmart with my SR40 for the most epic smash n' grab! I can easily fortify my house against zombies thanks to being in a hurricane hot spot. Toss up the 3/4 ply on all the windows, install free camera system that I just got from Lowe's for free and hunker down till all the $hit drips off the fan. Then we move to a nice island and live happily ever after. Blades will be the best weapons as they won't draw more attention like gunshots.
I can see the Zombie thing working out in other countries but in the US? I'm not exactly sure of the ratio but I know about 75% of the people I work with own firearms. There are millions of guns in this country but millions of guns. Think about out in the rural country areas, EVERYONE is packing! If only we had a plane like in Zombie Gunship. That would take care of this lil zombie problem.
It's pretty bad when you hope for zombies just to see what happens!

I've got a bug out bag in the back of the 4runner with water, MRE's, 550-cord, extre boot socks, matches, e-tool, military Individual first aid kit, poncho/tarp, snugpak 40- degree bag, thermal blanket. Flak jacket and kevlar are always in the back, as well as any recovery items.
Bring my Remington silenced .223 with 30rd mags and 1000rds of ammo.
Glock 9mm with 300rds of ammo.
Map to my predetermined dig in location, approximately 35mi from my home where my friends own a secluded farm with an initial perimeter already in place (barbedwire), 2 wells, earth-moving equipment, and vast amounts of gasoline and diesel.
Last, but not least, the wife...for repopulation purposes.
Oh yeah, I did a quick rendering of the Zombie Assault Vehicle (basically just my 4runner with a OD green paint job and a reinforced front stinger for mowing down zombies)

It all depends first on what type of zombies will the world be infested with in this apocalypse. Are we talking about "The Walking Dead" type of zombies that just shuffles and moans around without much coordination? Or the running more intelligent ones like the George A Romero, I Am Legend, or 28 days later type zombies? If it is the latter then really its about sprinting Usain Bolt style to any car, getting to the docks, and hijacking a sailboat. However if it is The Walking Dead type of zombies, then the secluded farm idea will work. Just make sure your party is kept small and only with trusted individuals!
And most importantly, keep those blonde twins. Regardless of your zombie preparedness, you will eventually die either from a bite, running out of supplies, or another party killing you to steal your supplies (probably to steal those blonde twins). So might as well die blissfully sandwiched between them

Okay, okay. I'm holding it together. For those of you that know me, I'm a zombie fanatic. I was zombie when zombie wasn't cool. Now unfortunatly they are becoming the new vampires.
Anyhoodyhow, the 4runner is a great ZA vehicle. With it's offroad capabilities combined with a tight turn radius it will do great in urban and rural areas.
I have a vehicle Bug Out Bag (BOB) and a personal BOB (ALICE Pack) set up in my garage. Combined with my .223 Colt Match Target Rifle with Bull Barrel and a few other nick nacks I and my family be good to go.
Not to nit pick, but Romeroe's zombies were slow (aka Shamblers). It was the remake of Dawn of the Dead that they gave them speed.
And a sword, katana, mechete are not the best weapons. The best weapon is stealth and a good pair of ears. The best hand weapon would be a baseball bat imho. You may not have to reload a sword, but you don't have to sharpen a bat. And when you drop it in the water in the dark, and you will, I'd much rather be grabbin for a bat than a blade covered with zombie goop.
I've easily blown over 1k on books, videos and such on this subject. Spent countless hours talking with friends on the subject and I'm even a member on a few forums. Combined with field training from being a grunt in the Marines and now being an independent duty corpsman (FMF and SW) yada, yada, yada... I hope I'm ready for the ZA.
I'd be more than happy to discuss anything zombie related with any of you if you'd like. We'd just have to start a new forum.
Me last Halloween. I use to teach EMT School. The staff was taught by a Hollywood Special Effects group on how to make wounds look real. I've litteraly made people puke.

um...the zombie apoc would would be more Little House on the Prairie and less Mad Max.
Gasoline would be useless after a year of sitting and you'd have no reason to travel anyway (think gather resources to build a secure farm). No travel, no reason to fight your way through zombies. You probably have 2 weeks of fighting to gather resources to be totally self sufficient and 60 years of farming.
I havent read $1k worth of zombie books though.

And yes... I will admit to spending that on books and such. But that was BEFORE I had the 4runner and that has been like 5 years now. See? I told you I was zombie before zombie was cool.
I know that I am going to dump more than 1k into the 4runner. already have actually.
I'm going to go and start my build thread as soon as I find the pic we took of it in 98 when it was purchased.

I'm probably going to catch hell for this, but being a 4Runner and Jeep owner I couldn't help but throw this one out here! Seems appropriate with the conversation! Jeep Wrangler ZS1 - Zombie Slayer! I believe the gun was just added on there as a goof but this is an actual Jeep that is being custom built by a company in Florida.
