3rd Gen Phone Mounting Solutions

I use a spring-type phone/tablet holder on a rigid, gooseneck style arm that I mounted to the inside front passenger seat bolt. Works well for me. Arm length is 18"

I don't often have passengers, but even when I do, the arm is curved inward, away from the passenger and brings the phone next to the shifter. I have a charge wire/USB adapter in one of the 12V ports in front of the shifter and a bluetooth headunit that I can stream music to and use for calls. I mounted a mic next to the map lights on the driver side.

Is that wizgear magnet much stronger than the ball magnet seen on the first page? Because I do like the small footprint of the ball magnet on the dash, which is smaller than the wizgear

Just a cheap magnetic mount I found at autozone.
Took out the clock (because it didnt work anyway) and cut a piece of wood the same size as the clock. Covered the wood with a piece of black plastic and epoxied them together. Drilled a hole through both and then put a bolt through that sticks out the front. Cut the arm of the mount to size and filled it with epoxy and sunk a nut into the epoxy.

Yeah, its dusty but I live and work in the desert and I would have to clean it every day if I wanted it spotless.

I don't know how strong that ball magnet is, but I know the Wizgear magnet is super strong + the magnet that goes on the back of your phone is super skinny and can go inside your case

I use a big fat a$$ rubber band on my sun visor.

1.Its almost free
2. It won't fall
3. It does not muck up my perfect dash
4. I can remove it and install in 1 second flat
5. it is hands free
6. if i pull my visor down and face my camera towards the windshield i now have a dash cam that records.

This setup has been perfect for me. I have it at about 1 o'clock and a couple of inches back from the wheel rim (we are RHD, so it's next to the A-pillar). I wanted it at this height so I wouldn't need to take my hand too far off the wheel or look down, since most of my driving is in traffic at speed.

I have a Panavise bracket and a Smoothtalker cradle which connects to my stereo and it connects to an antenna on the roof. I could add a cellular amplifier in the future too. The downside is my phone only fits in the cradle without a case. I have a Magpul phone case which pops on & off very easy so it's not a big deal, but if you had something like a Lifeproof or Otterbox it would be a deal breaker.

I got one that has the 3M sticky. It has held up with offroading but unfortunately my phone is so big the magnet isn't strong enough. I have a Nexus 6 and the magnet I used was Scoche I believe.

Might be the phone case you are using is so thick that the magnet isn't strong enough to get through it. I have the same (or what appears to be the same) mount and my phone is both larger and heavier than a Nexus 6 and my phone has never fallen off.

Made a bracket, added a PanaVise PortaGrip 15575 holder. Ta. Da.
Doesn't interfere with the hubby's knee, the air vents or the switches.

I could have chosen less obvious screws but am all about the use what I've got laying around whenever possible. Started with a thinner piece of steel but a wheeling trip inspired the change to a scrap piece of thicker aluminum. That sucker doesn't budge for anything.

Well that's a great alternative to the taint-spot mount since you already have a mic there.

How big of a pain was it to mount those red & blue switches to the right of the cupholder? I'm in need of more real estate for switches and hadn't considered that spot before.

This is my current setup as well. Has held up well in my '14 F-150, my '10 Ram 2500 and now the runner. Had some minor movement off road (8-10 hour trips to gold mines) but no major issues.

Ran a Z10 previously and a iPhone 6 now.

Moderate pain. Toughest part was knowing you can't screw it up or you'll be looking at your mess every day. I measured, stopped jumping on the bed, measured again, made a smaller hole than I needed, enlarged til I could get the switch squished in there. Look at the backside of the surround too, IIRC there was some consideration regarding switch placement there, no big deal though.
I originally had one switch and have added the other two since, keep in mind your spacing so you can do that.
Gauge lights, Winch solenoid, air compressor.

I've also got 3 switches where the ashtray used to be. Just a scrap bit of metal to hold those.
OBD II port, roof lights, daddy switch.

For what it's worth, the blue switch is too bright when lit so I didn't bother to wire up the light. It could be modified to be darker/dimmer but I didn't need a light to tell me my gauges are lit.

I used a sticky-sucker on the windshield. It eventually fell off and Bjorn I've been a little lazy to put it back up, but this location kept my head up. I prefer it for that reason.

Picked it up for about $30. I've never had my phone fall off even on the biggest hits. I highly recommend it. They have all kinds of different options now too. And they support the offroad industry which is a big bonus. I'll post a picture when I get a chance.
