What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

KDSS bolt either broke or completely backed out.. letting sway bar to bounce around. Was about 60 miles away from cell phone service.. seen only 6 people total for the day.. enroute to look over the Grand Canyon. Was able to limp out and able to drive the 600 miles back home. Cut the trip short.. but still awesome trip!!

Replacing both mounts, bushings and bolts. ~$130 for the parts. LAME

Was this Tuweep Overlook? I swear this is THE proving ground for if suspension bolts/nuts are torqued to spec. Since you swapped your shocks, I wonder if the KDSS bolt was on tight but not quite to spec. Things happen.

I wonder if a few cheap ratchet straps may have helped you limp out more easily. I had a lower link bolt pop out on the way and we discovered this on the last mile to the lookout. Ratchet straps saved my butt.

Nothing to winch to at all except some desert scrub trees hanging on the cliff and I was worried that if I winched forward off of something not sturdy if the rear slide down the cliff then the whole weight of the truck could pull the whole thing out.

No word yet on damage maybe some kind of bent lower a arm, ball joint, bent knuckle, or steering linkage?

Yikes man, sorry to hear! This is the kind of the stuff you don't ever want to see on this forum. I'm glad you guys came out of it without a scratch. You have now persuaded me to buy an in reach device.

The tow bill must have been pretty hefty. Do you have other photos?

You said it. We towed our 3,100# camper to Moab over the weekend. It was my first time towing with the 2017 4Runner. To say it was a disappointment is an understatement. Although the peak numbers are similar on paper, the 2017 is massively underpowered compared to our 2007 v8 4runner. I was honestly pretty surprised at how anemic the 2017 felt. Since we had both vehicles with us, I towed the trailer home with the 2007. Looks like the 4th gen will be the dedicated tow vehicle.:dammit:

That trail is super sketchy. Living in AZ for over 20 years I haven't heard of this happening to anyone I know. Looks like it was fun up to that point. The truck can be fixed. Glad your family is safe!

Installed the Rigid DOT fog lights yesterday, and ordered a small lift today. Hoping to install it before Lonestar Jamboree May 4-7.
 
Made every excuse to drive as much as I could. Spent last week on a beach in Mexico. Prior to leaving I dropped off the 4Runner to my buddy to fab up some "sliders." Gonna add steps to them as well. He didn't weld the steps on yet because he wanted to be sure of where we wanted them. Need to finish welding then powdercoat. Missed driving my baby. Until I start a full build thread, or at least proper write up on the steps, here's a teaser pic.

Yeah I have to say that I am a bit sad about this. I LOVE the truck, I really do ... but it feels shy while pulling my boat.

I really wish a V8 option would be there for the 4Runner ... just started a poll to get other members feeling.

yea i'm sorry but that looks like 100% driver error (i.e. you weren't paying attention at all and almost drove off the cliff)

road looks totally fine if you would've stayed on the road

Well everything is driver error of some kind. Picture doesn't really do it justice. Where it sits in the picture is not where I drove, just where it ended up after it slide sideways. There was a trail there, just can't see from the picture but it made a little avalanche of pretty large rocks that slid down the hill, I would say about 3-4ft of the trail just broke off.

Prepared the "the Rhino" for a trial of its other duty -- towing. Borrowed my buddy's (kinda too large) steel trailer to tow my track car to Fontana this weekend. Along with the custom aluminum ramps and tires, it's probably heavier than the car...

From a few weeks ago but... Installed Bilstein 6112 set to top notch with Camburg BJ UCA's up front and 5260's in the rear with Toltec 2" Superflex coils. Finished her off with some Firestone Destination A/T's in 285/70/17.

Overall took us about 6hrs or so, definitely worth it. Wanted to do BFG A/T KO2's or Cooper ST MAXX but decided to hold off as I primarily drive on the street and don't intend on doing any crazy wheeling just yet. Have to admit i'm very pleased with the way everything turned out and even though the P rated tires don't look too aggressive I have a feeling they'll fair well and are smooth and quiet as all get out on the hwy
