What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

I'm working on doing the whole frame, how much rust did you get rid off before starting to paint?

I chipped / dremelled off anything that was "loose". I took it down to the surface layer of rust that is immediately stuck to the metal. The instructions say to just remove the scale and degrease. I may have gone further than needed but I'd rather do that then not remove enough. You can also use metal prep to convert the rust before applying but they don't say that is essential. I will do that from now on.

I drove the damn thing again after swapping in an elocker axle assembly with the axle side PCK, poly control arm bushings, SS brake lines all around and a parking cable extension.

Made two trips to Agway to haul two 1k lb loads of pellets.

Might be considering a stiffer shock as it seems to be a bit bouncy with the 4600's.

What Did I do Today

Pulled the rear bumper and cleaned up a little getting ready for the replacement

BTW I have a straight center section for a 3rd gen if anyone needs it, the sides have been trimmed for clearance.

got the powder coating back yesterday. today I installed the roof rack and air deflector.Gave all the rubber and plastic parts a good thorough cleaning and a wipe down with the 303 plastic protector/ revitalizer. I am stoked at how much better everything looks. I went with blackboard for a color.

Burned by the dealership

Took it into a southern Canada dealership for a wheel alignment the other day. It was needed to prepare for my new tires. I chose Toyota as I thought I could trust them to do things right - the way I like them done.

Well, the wheel alignment seems great. However, they used a torch to free one of the lock nuts on the OTE. In the process they cooked my ITE boot bellows. I discovered this a day later when I crawled under to check it out. Now due to time constraints we have to hit the road and I'll have to fix this later on my own. Sh!T!

To be fair, they reluctantly agreed to fix it but we can't wait around long enough for them to get it done.

Just another example where leaving it to the professionals burns a guy. This is why we do our own work.

Lift Kit

What height lift do you have on there?

Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk

The front springs are Trailgear 3" heavy duty, because of the V6, and some old rears I cobbled together from an old set, I think the main leaf came from a Trailgear set.

but it doesn't really translate to a tru number as how much lift was actually installed.
It's taller than I want, but on leaf springs that's what I get.

You are missing the flapper door on the vent below the gas filler. It's supposed to let air out but not in so you don't get a truck fill of dust like me.

I was gonna make a plate and block it off completely, I am also working on cutting above the rear wheels and plating that also, The new bumper will be cut back for tire clearance and the body is in the way. lol
I don't think this seals well enough to need the vent.

Installed some Superflex coils (thanks Lindenwood ). Spring rate is supposed to be a lot higher than the 890’s I replaced them with but they ride too close to say I noticed a difference (in a good way, they’re both great springs). Also did an oil change on the runner as well as oil change and rear brakes on the gf’s Scion XB. I need to up my tool game and get a cordless 3/8” impact or ratchet!
