time for new tires.... but how to choose?

Tires in my truck is coming to its wear limits and is getting very noisy.

I want something that has MORE highway and somewhat off road capability, less or no noise, good traction on dry and wet roads and the budget.

Found few cooper tires and tirerack don't have reviews for these.

Which one of the following is a good set?

Definitely consider the Toyo Open Country A/T II tires. Pretty quiet IMO. Not highway quiet but close and should get you more offroad

Of the ATs, Revo 2 should be the quietest. Not as quiet as the 1st and 3rd tires, but based on your "somewhat off road" statement, Revo 2 would be the one I would think would fit best.
 
good question. i too need tires and favor the LTX 2's but i am sure there are more options out there. coopers look good. the revo's are nice too. i too would like something quiet but meaty. what tires are US made?

I had the yokohama geolander ats, and I didnt notice any noise, and they had great traction in many conditions. Actually just about anything but mud. I would highly reccomend them.
 
I gotta +1 on the Yoko Geo's, but I really really like my MTR's, especially when off roading! Really not much road noise IMO
 
I just put Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor 265-70R/16's and really happy with them. I get a little highway noise but to get off-road performance that is the sacrifice you have to make.

What kind of life did you get out of them? I ate through my ATSs in about 30k on my 08 Xterra. Not terrible but less than I expected. Maybe it's the price of quiet.
 
I've run Cooper AT3s for two years, 30K miles. Still have over half tread, no issues, quiet, smooth, balance correctly, good in snow/rain/offroad. I'll buy the same ones when these wear out.

I got the LT tires, load range C (they come in E too). The ones on ebay are SUV tires and are not as tough (and cheaper). I paid $700 out the door (mounted, balanced, tax - $640 without tax) at Orscheln Farm Supply.

Bottom Line: If you need an all-terrain that really does excel in all terrains, the A/T3 is worth a look. There are many neat ideas integrated into this tire. The A/T3 is slated to replace the Discoverer AT/R, and by the time you read this it will be available in 31 light truck sizes and 30 P-metric sizes with a 55,000-mile warranty.

Head & Shoulders above the Dueler A/T Revo 2’s they replaced.

Thanks for everyone's input. The cooper AT/3 is something I was considering by looking at the thread design. The one on ebay has 4 plies and this is range C, correct? I don't haul trailers and simply looking for nice comfort ride, so 4 ply should do the job.

How about cornering with the 4ply with 29 PSI?

Load range C is an LT (Light Truck) tire, and is a 6 ply rating.

A 4 ply rating is load range B, and will usually be branded as a P (passenger) tire.
 
I have cooper ATR tires on my 04 Grand Cherokee Laredo V8 and the AT3 on Grammys 04 Grand Cherokee Limited.

Putting the Cooper AT3's on the 4Runner this fall.

Correct. The AT3s on the ebay link are the 'P' designation, and are marketed for 'SUV' use.

The price on the ebay link isn't real good either. I could have bought those for $600 mounted, balance, with tax. The ebay price is $592 and you'll probably pay another $40-80 to get them mounted once they get to you. I'd check a local tire store.

The Cooper AT3's are great tires, if you have Discount Tire in your area I would recommend checking them out as they tend to have competitive prices. As another option, I would recommend Falken Wild Peaks (aka Rocky Mountains if bought from Discount Tire). I Just replaced my Nitto's with these Falken's and I've been truly impressed with how much my ride has improved. They still have an aggressive look as well.

I will x2 about the Falkens. I've had mine for a year now and love them. They've been great in everything I've put them through. They still look brand new...plus they have the 50k tread warranty.

With full replacement certificates, you're looking at $615 shipped to your door for 265s. Then take them to a Discount Tire and they'll mount and balance for free.

I just got a set of Bridgestone Revo 2 A/T and I love them so far. I've heard nothing but great things about them too.
 
enjoying this thread.....I have 17" tundra rims and 265/70-17 BFG ATs but they are dry rotting they are so old I guess or the Cali heat......I have room for 285s I think, maybe need wheel spacers or was thinking maybe new rims since wheel spacers are so expensive if I do go to 285s. I want an AT but want to wheel, but not much mud in Cali....

Here seems to be my problem looking at tires in 265 or 285, you either can get P rated (which many threads on various forums say will not hold up to airing down and rocks, wheeling etc), or they jump to E range which folks say for a 3rd gen will be too stiff and heavy....

Are there many options in C range? My BFGs are C range, but now they do not make them!

I was looking at Cooper S/Ts, as they do have them in C range in 265/70 17 and 275/70 17 I think which are just tad taller and wider....and not a bad price! But some reviews say they are noisy.

The new Fun Country's look nice, so do the Mickey Thompson ATP3s or something, but they are pricey.....

Anyhow, nice thread...money is tight so I should be realistic here haha...and I do want decent mpg and noise, so trying to find options in 265 or 285 that are C range, not too heavy, but strong enough to air down and hit the rocks....
