MattJakobs Build Thread-2001 Stellar Blue Pearl

This is my daily driver and weekend warrior. An all purpose vehicle built to get me to and from the beach for surf trips, to and from the mountains for wheeling, and everything in between. The plans for it are ever evolving as it's getting used for more and more things as I find out what it's capable of. My goal is to make it as capable off-road as possible while still keeping it drive-able for a day to day basis. This build has and will continue to see a lot of surf trips to the Outer Banks as well as all over for wheeling and sight seeing.

This is my first personal vehicle and I am learning as I go and as things need replacing and redoing. Enjoy and I'm always open to suggestions.

Thanks, one of the more rare colors out there, Stellar Blue Pearl. Have already done a few things to it, pictures coming soon. Picking up a rear tube bumper tomorrow and will hopefully have the running boards off this weekend.

My favorite color. If they had offered it in a 99 or 00 Limited, I would have bought one no matter the location.

Post more pics.

I take it you mean the summer of 2015?

I really like the Stellar Blue Pearl with the Thundercloud trim, the only problem I am running into is what colors to do wheels and new bumpers. The bumper I'm picking up tomorrow is a very dark grey, close to black. I want to get a matching tube bumper for the front but know it won't have much use at all for me since I never really need it to recover anyone. I'm thinking about putting a front fishing rack holder with fold down cooler carrier. They come in chrome but don't want to off set the rear bumper. Any thoughts?

More pictures coming soon... I'm heading home from school this weekend so I will hopefully get the running boards off as well as get some interior shots. Already put a new head unit so pictures are definitely needed.

Was talking about summer 2015 but if I can find a good deal on a lift around Black Friday/Christmas, I'm all in. I'm due for some new tires by next month so I'm thinking 265/75/16 BF-Goodrich All-Terrain for now.

Finally took some more pictures. I installed the Kenwood DPX500BT head unit, it was last years model so I got a good deal on it and it has blue tooth. The seats definitely need some attention, still deciding on custom seat covers or getting them reupholstered, any thoughts?

Looks like a real good starting point for a vehicle! I'm in the same situation as you with the beach living and building more towards a surf vehicle. Good goals to have.

That being said, I noticed you are talking about seat cover options. My plan (since I know I climb out of the surf and into the car) is to eventually pick up a set of the custom Coverking Neoprene Seat covers. That way you don't have to worry about the salt water and sand really causing too much damage. Just a thought. You should look into them as well.

Good luck on the build.

I was looking at those exact seat covers, noticed they had a sale going on so maybe buying a set very soon. I had also looked at the mesh ones because of the better price but thought about myself in the winter... When it's 30 degrees out and I'm wearing a 6/5/4, I'm not going to change so neoprene is the way to go. Initially I was going to wait until Black Friday for a sale and pick up a set of Whether Tech floor mats and these and be done with the interior for a while. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

It looks like someone attends college in Fredericksburg VA if I am not mistaken. My friend did her residency at Mary Washington hospital some years back for OBGYN. She often visited the Old Mill Park on the Rappahannock.

I'd put the bumper on first, then see what your choices are for rod holders. There are a plenty. I personally like putting the cooler behind the 4runner.

My friend uses one of these or something similar on his Jeep Cherokee:

Actually at Old Dominion, freshman studying civil engineering. I was thinking of going with something like the one you said but the rack will most likely be on all the time if I find a good way to thief-proof it. The permanent cooler on the one you said would probably just get in the way for a day to day basis. I've found someone local who does welding and he quoted me $40 to put it on which is a fraction of the price shops are giving me so hopefully meeting up with him this Sunday. Also going to try and get those running boards off this weekend

Hey man, I'm at ODU on campus right this minute. If I were to get something to hold my fishing gear, it'd be inside the truck.

I like this idea:

I really like that idea, I haven't seen or heard on anything like that. Don't really need anything for fishing until next summer so I'll have some time to look into that option. I've read through your build and have been looking around for your rig. I'm in an off campus apartment right off Hampton BLVD in Larchmont so I get to have my vehicle and work on it.

ODU is a good college as well. I spent a year at W&L's law school, but felt that being an attorney was best left to others so I left.

My friend had someone weld him on a straight pipe 2" right behind the front bumper on his Cherokee so he could take the rack out after fishing.

Have fun with the build and the removal of the running boards.

I looked into getting a front receiver hitch put in, especially since the rear bumper I'm looking at has one built in, I'll have an extra. Just need to find out how to retrofit the rear hitch to fit the front...
Hopefully these chores get finished this weekend and can get some pictures on here.
