DIY Videos You'd Like to See Made

I'd like one on how Tim maintains his yard. It looks nice. I am still cleaning up from Matthew at the moment.

Real estate prices in some parts of the country at the moment are nuts, crazy nuts.

I have a girlfriend that likes yard work but I do my fair share too. When I bought the house in 99, I leveled the front yard to just dirt and spent weeks of hard labor out there re-doing the landscaping mostly by myself but I had some help on the heavier days like when the pallets of sod arrived.

I've never paid anyone to do my yard work. I grew up doing it and I still don't mind it but it is nice to have a girlfriend who likes doing yard work too.

The response has been awesome! Thank you for all your suggestions.
infamousRNR had a great idea to start a "To Do List". I put the list on the first post of the thread. Just because you don't see your recommendation on the list doesn't mean it isn't going to happen. The ones on the list are ones we know are definitely going to happen at some point in the near future. The list isn't necessarily in the chronological order of when they'll be completed.

Thanks and keep the suggestions coming!

I'm sorry, maybe I missed it, do you have a link for the existing videos. I have lots of plans coming up and could use:

Tundra brake upgrade
Sound deadening the interior
Radiator replacement
LBJ replacement
Full suspension replacement
Wiring lights from the roofrack
Timing belt replacement with associated components
Interior disassembly and reassembly
Spark plugs and tune-up stuff
Front and rear bumper removal

I could go on and on and on......point is, this is a great service lots of folks could use. Thanks!

Replacing rear axle seals/bearings.
Adding an E-Locker
E-Locker Harness/wiring
Rear Diff replacement
Rear axle replacement...

See where I'm going? :becky:

I do see where your going. Did you go there yet? I'm thinking about doing the same thing. So how about it mtbtim, you up for an e-locker stock housing retro fit vid? I got the line on an e-locked third with the same gears as my rig. It's got the wiring with it. Some one help me pull the trigger. It's e-locked or air at this point. E-locked will be harder but cheaper.

I did an E-locker retrofit from a 97' 4runner and swapped it in mine...

factory button,
factory computer module
factory wiring.

...... mtbtim and I also have a slight filter of trying to do videos that will be popular with the masses.... e-locker swap is such a niche market of only US modders on T4R...

although i perosnally would be down to help

Help in the form of moral support would be rad. Unless you like taking vacations on the East Side. The pass will probably be closed for the year once the next storm roles through.

When you did your swap did you pull the housing or do it in place? I keep thinking I might not have to pull the housing at all. I can plasma cut and drill from underneath the rig. The hard part would be welding the housing to build it up. Any tips that you have would be appreciated. I can have the third member shipped here for just a bit over 500 bucks. That would include the switch, ecu, and harness. I really need to tell the guy yes or no. I feel like an idiot not to have said yes already.

Would we be doing it at your place?

Dashboard pull apart, including removal of the power to the automatic antenna, installing new dash light bulbs, etc.

I'd consider taking it your way if your interested. Or if you wanna come out to Bishop that would also work. The thing I'm lacking is a welder. I'm trying to think of other ways to build the housing up and JB weld keeps coming up in my brain. It's probably a really bad idea but that stuff works for almost everything I've used it for. Probably a bad idea in this application though.

Here's a video I did of replacing an instrument panel light bulb. It's not the full deal but it's a start.

What welding is needed?

I've done about 5 elocker swaps (getting ready for another one) and it's far easier to take the axle housing off than having it under the vehicle. There's more room to work with. On the last 3rd gen housing I did, I didn't weld the mating surface to build it up and it's been leak free for over 10yrs. With the older Toyota trucks/4Runners (85-95) I did weld up the housing mating surface and grind/file it down due to it having less of a contact surface.

With a steady hand you may be able to get the fork clearance cut with the plasma. You'll probably have to clean it up with an angle grinder afterwards. What sucks is cleaning up the grinding dust. BTDT and hated it..

The side of the housing needs to be built up and ground flat to the level of the existing surface. Or at least that's how most of the write-ups I looked at so far have shown it. It makes it easier to tap the new holes for the longer studs.

Did you use a press to drill the new bolt holes or did you do it by hand? I've drilled a lot of steel types by hand and I'm pretty sure I could do the housing from underneath by hand. Slow and steady always wins the race with steel. If you're not building up the housing how hard where the new holes to drill? It looks like they would sit on a fairly round surface without any build up. Hence my crazy JB Weld idea. That would at least give me a flatter surface to start drilling from.

Either way the e-locker purchase is pretty much a done deal. I just asked for some photo's of the ring and pinion to make sure they are in decent shape. Once I verify that I'm buying that locker. Pretty excited.

It will be a while before I do it, I'm gonna start collecting parts when I come across them cheap. By the time I'm ready to do it I should have my garage set up.
