Hey all!
I have the classic charcoal canister clicking problem, as well as a gasping "thup thup thup" from my VSV line. Lets start at the beginning.
About a month ago my runner threw a code and I knew it was time to replace my evap canister. The previous summer I managed to break it off-roading, and with a generous amount of epoxy I figured it would seal and work fine.
Since then my life has been a series of codes related to my evap system...
131, 141, etc.
As of today I have a new canister installed, as well as new Denso o2 sensors upstream and downstream. I even replaced the vapor pressure sensor.
Other threads on this subject point to mismatched vaccuum tubes and tons of people seem to have this problem...without ever finding a solution.
My mechanic and I have triple checked the wiring, the arrangement and quality of the tubes, and everything else. Despite the vehicle running perfectly, when the engine heats up the clicking resumes.
Now everyone else seems to have given up on the clicking at some point, but Im a stickler for how my car sounds.
I noticed that if I unplug the vsv sensor, but leave the vsv and intake lines attached the noise goes away. No clicking, no "thup thup thup", no idle issues, and no drive-ability issues.
I still have the Vapor pressure sensor plugged in, as well as the blue sensor that is it's corollary.
The pictures show the sensor in question.
So my question is: Can I get away with this "fix"? The solenoid clicking seems to be an engine computer malfunction more so than a genuine mechanical issue. I suspect that my engine computer adapted to my broken canister a little too well, and now that everything has been replaced its just wrong.
Ill clear my CEL, keep track of my mileage, and report back soon.
In the mean time let me know what you think!
Cheers,
Orion K
