Rotated the tires, now I have a little shake in the steering wheel...

This has happened once before so I took the 4R and had the two front tires re-balanced.

Pulled out on the interstate and everything was smooth as silk... A short time later the shake returned, not as strong as before but still there.

A few miles later it smoothed again?!

250 miles later it has been going back and forth the entire time, smooth than shaking. Tires look good, about 30k on them and plenty of tread, no odd wear issues, what am I missing?? :shrug:

Who did the tire rotation? It is very important on these truck to put all the lug nuts on loosely and then snug them up slowly in a cross pattern. Then torque to spec. If an idiot puts one on tight and then another till all are on you will be slightly offset and could get an shake...

Least that is how I fixed mine.

You should always retorque aluminum wheels after 50 miles or so. While installing I have always shaken wheel till lugs (by hand) seat wheel against hub tightly. But you may have other drive line issues such as bearings or tie rod ends even ball joints.

Did u brush off the loose dirt before u put the wheel back on, also make sure all air pressure the same. What kind of tire do u have on?

I suspect either a problem with the rim or possibly a belt separated in the tire.

can you narrow it down to which tires are suspect?

for my Bonneville***I switched around my tires until I could feel which one was causing the vibration ended up being a bent rim.

Could also just be a tire slightly out of balance. A slight imbalance can be more or less perceptible in different positions around the vehicle. I chased a "wandering" vibration for a while and it turned out to be one tire with a higher "road force" than the others.

It's good practice to check and rebalance all wheels every rotation. Wheels move right? Stuff gets thrown around, rubber used etc. just get it all checked and balance as necessary.

Any good tire dealer will do this work for free if you bought tires there.

Tire vibration typically come in at 30 and 60 mph. If that is true for yours I'd get them balanced and see if it fixes it.

I chased this same issue for years before realizing Toyota was serious when they say we need to use a Haweka adapter to balance the tire. Im amazed the tire shops are not aware.

Rotate them again and I bet the problem goes away.

I had that problem after installing new tires on my GTO. Took it back 3 times and had them verify the balance. I watched them do it myself and verified the 0.0 on the balance machine. Still had vibration. I finally took it to another store and had them balance the tires and the problem went away. Obviously, in my case, it was the balance machine needing calibrating.

I've been driving 40 years, damn now I sound old, I can't ever remember the shake coming and going like it is. Drove 340 miles today and the same thing.

Everything else has been gone through...

I've never had a slipped belt though...

So many people are having trouble with shaking front wheels I think this model probably needs a Steering Stabilizer. Anyone ever try installing one?

I have one on my pickup but not on the 4runner. I was thinking about adding one but there aren't any for it on ebay or anywhere, just for older models. I
haven't looked underneath there to see what might fit but I suspect a general purpose one from the autoparts store might work.

vcould be a bent rim or warped tyre...but a good tire place should detect that

65 mph and under it's better, get it close to 70 and it increases...

Probably the balance, I may just rotate them back to where they were.

I was initially also thinking an issue with a belt in the tire. I've had this issue happen to tires that had decent tread life remaining. Since tires either wear out due to age or tread wear, this could be it. Take them in for a balancing?
