Used OEM CV AXLE "to reboot or not to reboot?" that is the question

The title kind of explains it all. I'm about to pull the trigger on some nice looking used OEM CV axles out of a Lexus GX470 with over 150000 miles. the boots are very clean and intact without any signs of grease leakage. :banana: Just wondering if it will be a good idea to install as is, reboot my original axles and have them on standby just in case? I got about 3" of lift on my rig and I'm in GA/FL area so i dont see alot of extreme trails. your thoughts please

If you have a 3" lift Id just reboot the GX ones with some high angle boots or use the Porsche 930 boots. Rebooting the GX ones allows you to still drive your rig while you complete the project... The Porsche boots are huge and have tons or travel in them. You'd never tear a CV boot again.

When I lifted mine the max with Bilstein 5100's, 2.5 inches I think, it started leaking because the clamp couldn't handle the added stress. Put on worm gear style clamps ad problem solved. You may want to consider...

With that much mileage, I’d definitely clean out the old grease, regrease, and then reboot them. No downside, and it’s way easier to do while they are out of the car and it’s still driveable. Less to worry about later.

Clean and re-grease the "new" ones until you have some other major frontend work to do (brakes, tierods, etc.) and do them all at once. Maybe go ahead and do the differential oil seals and definitely have some spare knuckle seals handy. Last time I monkeyed with them I ended up tearing both seals on the way out.

Just be careful...I managed to hose up the stupid roller bearing on the driver's side so I replaced it with the ECGS bushing kit (I've got the custom bearing puller if you need it).
