TPMS light went on, but there's plenty of air in tire

This morning the TPMS light came on. I checked all 4 tires, but the psi was right where it always is. So I bet it's the spare. I wasn't dressed to get under and check, but I'm going to do it tonight. If that is the problem, do I have to reset the light in some way or will it just go off?

It will just go off if it's the spare. No need to reset.

I actually really like this feature. In my old car, I got a flat and so was my spare.

i took mine out completly. the one in my spare was always leaking and setting off the light

It was just the spare. It had gone down to 20 psi

its funny, i have the 4 stock tires in my uninsulated garage, i park right outside, so theres not that much difference in temp, & yet its the spare on the vec. that gets low & sets it off.

Fill the tires with Nitrogen, you won't have nearly the issue, especially with the spare.

Thanks for the tip here guys. TPMS came on when I left the ski area today. Came home aired up all four tires, stayed on...then came home and got on here and found this. Went back aired up the spare and it went off. What a goofy place to put a TPMS sensor, in the spare?

Eh, its not as goofy as you would think...
Most people never check their spare tires and those things rarely if ever get used... Think of it this way, you blow a tire on the highway and the spare you just put on is as flat as your damaged tire?

I'm still surprised by the number of customer's who's spare tires are practically flat...

What surprises me is that the spare loses air faster than those on the ground.
thinking about it:
Probably because my spare is 3 times older than any of those on the ground. (its the original and never been used)

I like it. I would rather be informed that my spare is near flat than try to use it one day, and it is dead.

Which has happened. People ignore the spare until they need it and they go "crap, it is flat too"!

My TPMS light is activated and has been since I bought it 2 months ago. The guy who I bought it from said it was a faulty sensor in one of the wheels. However, I think I'll first check the spare. Never thought about that. However, he did take it to a Toyota dealership so...It would be funny if they got it wrong.

I wish there was some mod to bypass the spare.. I can't stuff a 33 in there so the spare sits in the garage, and I hate seeing the light. I wish it would take readings from all the other tires and ignore the missing spare. how does the sensor work, anyways? does it go off tire weight or something? I'd like to try and figure out some solution, seeing as how it hasn't been done. and btw, I also recommend nitrogen, im going on 14 months with no PSI loss in any tire.

I don't have TPMS in my '03 SR5. I had it in the '05 RAV4 I used to drive but I don't miss it. Especially because my spare has a nail in it and it is irreparable. I don't need the constant reminder of that, haha. I figure, why pay a lot of money to get a new spare when I plan on up-sizing tires in a few months anyway? Also, the TPMS in the RAV4 was such a pain especially since the guys at the dealer didn't know how to reset it properly and it would always kick on while driving home. I always had to reset it myself.

I got the light right after I changed wheels. I just did the entire bypass mod with splicing into the pink wire etc. Theres a whole thread on it if you search it. Its not that hard to check your PSI once in a while. In fact you should make a habit of it instead of waiting for the light to come on. Same goes for the Oil. When you get gas hop out check the oil/PSI. The lights on the dash are for people who wait for problems instead of catching them before they happen. You shouldnt "wait" for the light to come on.

hmm well I guess I've just never heard of that mod, but I'll be looking it up now, thanks for that. and I do check my psi everyonce a while, i mean I've got to since the tmps light is always on. it's just that since I have the system, I'd like it to work

Ya but if is Not working no Sense in keeping it. The mod is pretty Easy. You need a switch, one of those plastic wire splicers, and some wire. Pm me if you get stuck.
