TRD Cold Air Intake - New Style and Where Can I Find the Old Style

I have seen a few posts that TRD has come out with a new Cold Air Intake. I was wondering if anyone had any pictures of the new cold air intake. I was also wondering what everyone thinks of this new intake?

I really like the look of the old cold air intake style and was wondering if anyone knew where I could still buy one today? I have a 2006 Toyota 4 Runner.

I ordered the new style TRD CAI and it does not fit! The air box is too tall and the hood will not close.

I have been working with the dealership I ordered it from but they have not had any luck with TRD.

Although I'm going by what I have been told by some friends. However if you wanna try it for yourself heres a good place.Cold Air Intake at Sparks Toyota-Scion, Myrtle Beach, SC If you want to find the old style Ebay and other forums like this are your best bet.
 
Bringing this old thread back...

Just picked up the new TRD CAI from eBay which was being sold out of a San Diego stealership (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140392431733&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT). Initially I thought I was getting the old style according to the picture represented on eBay so to my surprise I get the new one which isn't as pretty of course.

Oh well, was going to put in on tonight but realized a "buddy" of mine still has my socket set so i'll have to wait until this weekend to put it on. I sure hope it fits. If not, i'm walking my ass down to the stealership and returning it. If it does fit i'll post pics and a sound clip. :D
 
Dude I REALLY WOULD NOT put it on your truck. That is a poorly engineered intake system. The location of where the MAF is placed on it causes the truck to run extremely lean, Gadget at urd doesn't recommend them. He does recommend the old style TRD or just get an afe stage 2 si. Even techs at toyota have called him and asked what was the problem. If I were you I'd return it and get an AFE intake.

yeap, The new ones really are a poor design
 
I ended up getting the AFE after I sent back the "new style" TRD. The AFE is a good unit and is the same as the "old style" TRD except that it has an extra port on the front of it. I keep the extra port plugged with the plug AFE includes with the intake.

Gadget on the xrunner forum is the MAN.
 
Yep. What a piece of junk. I started the install today and as soon as I seated the lower portion of the intake box I attached the upper portion and couldn't close my hood. I'm with you guys on the AFE. I found a Stage 2 dry filter version i'm getting.
 
Installed the AFE intake today and the throttle response is pretty nice. Deep throaty sound too. Although the fitment of the box took me a little time as the holes did not line up perfectly. $150 richer as the TRD intake was a ripoff.

Where did you buy your AFE from?

Have no feedback on performance. I got the pic from a seller on Ebay.

Now you should spend that $150 and get the MAF sensor calibrator from Gadget @ URD. It really makes a big difference!
