How low do you go? 5th Gen Off Road Tire Pressures
I'm just curious what some other members are running in their 5th Gen when driving in off road conditions. I apologize if this is a repeat, didn't see it on a quick google search.
1) What's your normal trail pressure?
2) Will you go lower? Min?
3) Tire size/rim?
4) Have you lost a bead?
Here are my answers:
1) What's your normal trail pressure? 15psi
2) Will you go lower? Min? I have gone down to 12psi a couple of times. I'm beginning to think this will be my new standard for technical trails. I've never gone lower on the 5th Gen (no need yet). I suppose if I was stuck I would try as low as 8psi (obviously, I would try 10 first...)
3) Tire size/rim? Mickey Thompson MTZ's LT265/70R17E on stock 17x7 SR5 rims.
4) Have you lost a bead? No, not on the 4Runner.

1. 18 psi
2. Yes, if I think it might be goopy/ uber technical. Probably wouldn't go below 12. If I get stuck that bad I can get a snatch from a buddy or (soon here) winch out.
3. 285/70/17 MT/R Kevlar on 17x8.5 SCS-6
4. No but looking at my numbers I play it pretty safe.

1. Deflators are set to 18
2. Yes. For technical trails, I go to 12psi. I have gone as low as 8psi to get flotation in deep snow, it worked
3. 285/70/17 Duratrac, 17x8 (I think) ATX Mojave
4. No, but I do carry the equipment to reseat one
At 12 psi in rocks, I have seen my tires deformed to the point I was sure they were going to pop off the bead. I don't think I would run any lower in rocks without beadlocks.

Summer tires
1. 12 psi
2. No
3. 285/70/17 E load GY MT/Rs on 17x8.5 SCS Stealth 6s
4. Not yet... (knock on wood)
Winter tires
1. 18 psi
2. I might go lower in deeper snow. Maybe 15 psi
3. 285/70/17 E load Nokian Rotiiva AT on stock TE wheels
4. Not yet...
Couple of things I'd note. First, if you're running a P-rated tire, going much lower than 18 psi is risky. Start high, see how it feels, then go a little lower if you feel you need to - way easier to let more air out on the trail than to get the compressor out. Adjust your pressure based on your overall weight - if you're completely loaded up with people and camping supplies you may not want to go as low as you do when running completely empty.

Method 1: ratchet strap and dual compressor setup that should deliver enough CFM to set the bead.
Backup method: Propellant from an aerosol can

Have been down to 12 but usually 15-18 Depending where I am.
Won't go lower.
Stock rim with Cooper AT3's.
Not on this rig, but I do carry ratchet straps, starting fluid, compressor and other ideas.
I mark my tyres in case I spin them.

1) What's your normal trail pressure? Deflators are set to 14psi. I've never required anything lower than this with my tires.
2) Will you go lower? Min? I know a few guys who run lower and don't seem to lose beads. I may try as low as 12psi in the future.
3) Tire size/rim? 285 70 R17 Mickey Thomson Baja ATZ Load D / Stock SR5 17"
4) Have you lost a bead? Not yet

This is because the sidewalls of P rated tires have less plies?

1) What's your normal trail pressure? From 37 psi (normal road) to 20 psi.
2) Will you go lower? Min? Sure but not below 15-18 psi. I run "P" rated tires.
3) Tire size/rim? 265/70/17 Stock TE rim
4) Have you lost a bead? Not with a 4Runner.
