Emergency service in my car - How do I turn it off?

What is the emergency service in my car called (Toyota version of Onstar)?

How do I disable this and disable it in such a way that it can never transmit regardless if I have a subscription or not?

Buy an older car to use for kidnapping. Why do you want to disable permanently? The question trips my suspicion of a car thief.
 
That's a strange assumption and typical of today's progressive thinking...assume guilt before anything.

No! I don't like a 3 party vender having access to my data without me wanting them to. I do not pay for it nor have I requested it, but the service is still running. I am not provided with a way to deactivate it, therefore I will do it myself.
 
Is it integrated with the GPS system or is it a cell-type transmitter? How does it transmit, is there and antenna to dismantle that is separate from the GPS?

I don't know that this is political. But if I need to remind you - it was a conservative president and congress who enacted most of our government data tracking.

And I think it's entirely reasonable to question a poster who asks how they can make it hard to track a stolen car. The idea of hiding off the grid is laughable. Especially for someone posting online - on a computer. - So I'm calling bull shit.
 
Oh, Jesus... as soon as someone speaks up for their privacy the progressives come out of the woodwork and start spouting bizarre anti-Republican propaganda.

A am not part of any political ideology, nor do I care who enacted the legislation....I simply do not want to be part of a service I did not pay for.

Anyone have real-constructive feedback? The more technical the better. Any mechanics out there ever come across the wiring or antennas associated with this service?

I'm not a progressive in any meaningful sense. I just don't believe you. If you were serious about being tinfoil hat man - you wouldn't be on a computer asking for help.
 
The easiest way to do this requires thin sheets of aluminum... You layer the sheets to form a sort of insulation and then shape it into a cone and wear it on your your head. It's 99% effective at keeping the government and "progressives" from reading your brain waves.

Now about Toyota's STAR safety system, maybe 1engineer will post?
 
It really does not matter about "the "service" knowing your location. You (and everyone else) driving a late model vehicle has a data recorder that sends out a signal too. You can't disable that realistically because it is tied into all your electronics. You need to buy a pre 1980's car, have no cell phone or tablet or laptop on your person, stay away from interstates and cities with more than a 10K population (traffic cams) and do not buy an EZ pass. Your residence cannot have any electricity bought from a power company, you cannot have satellite tv or public water and sewer. If you follow all these rules then maybe you can be "clandestine" for a bit. Oh, all transactions have to be in cash and you cannot have a bank account. Last thing: Make sure your tin foil hat is current and has all updates.

Bottom line: Even if you turn off the roadside assistance, if someone wants to track you or hack you bad enough there are multiple points other than that service. Buy an old pickup truck.

Yes, ODB. Aware of that and not concerned with it

The service tends to activate randomly while I am driving and make announcements. Can't stop it nor does the dealer detect a problem...So, need to disable it.

OK, you guys win....I was originally seeking technical information, but it is clear you would like to push an idea and take the discussion away from Toyota 4Runners.

We all know that everything tracks you and it is almost impossible to avoid being tracked...so, why is it that you seem to believe people looking for even limited privacy should be flamed/chastised or prevented from having the discussion?

I would guess there are many men going through divorce that can relate to the suggestion of privacy...

Tell us WHY and maybe someone here will take you seriously enough to help. If someone, (the government, your sworn enemy, the husband of the woman you are with) wants to track you in today's world they can. Do a bit of research other than that youtube video you posted that is already out of date and you will see. A 15yo kid with $12 worth of Radio Shack parts just defeated the top security guys from Mercedes and others. He hacked into these vehicles and took control and monitored their location ?How A 14-Year-Old Hacked A Car With $15 Worth Of Radio Shack Parts and God help you if DARPA wants you for something.

I was being serious. If you truly need privacy for whatever reason then buy:
A 1980's vehicle that is silver (most common) and does not stand out in any way. It can't be too nice, too ratty, too cool or too bad.

You cannot expect true privacy if you drive a late model vehicle and use a computer and put your money in a bank and live in a decent sized city. You just can't. Turning off the Star system is like sticking your finger in a dam that has 1,000 leaks. Good luck.

To recap what I clearly stated at the head of the post...

I asked to disconnect a service I do not want to use....you and others made it into something it is sooo not. It looks to me that you have the tracking idea on your mind and have pushed this whole post in that direction...

You win...make it a useless post. I think it would have been interesting to learn what antennas and transmission devices are in our 4Runners and where they are located. Additionally, It would have been helpful to stop the service from activating randomly in my vehicle...
