ATV Flag Mount Options on 5th Gen for use at the dunes

I'm curious as to what people use for mounting an atv safety flag on their Runner when going to the dunes. I want something that will keep the flag from smacking my rig at times that it might whip. I had thought about using a hitch and mounting it to that, but I'm afraid if it whips it may chip the paint on the hatch. Any suggestions, hopefully with pics that anyone might have?

Dune Flag

If it does not have to be at the front, I use this on the roof rack rail. Bought it at a Pilot truck stop store in the CB section.. I use a strip of rubber to pad the rail. With a 4ft flag and a 6 foot TE, it`s 10 feet.

Where do you access the dunes? We tried on a recent trip and could find where to go.

Thanks I will look into something like that. The flag just has to be on the rig and be at least 9 ft tall total, so no issues on placement. All along the Oregon coast there is dune access, but most notabley is from just north of Coos Bay to just south of Reedsport.

Interesting topic. I actually need to do this too for Memorial Day weekend in Silver Lake Michigan. I'm pretty sure they require the flag to be mounted on the front so I will need to make a bracket.

The flag rules from Silver Lake are below. Note: they are changing their entry / permit process this year to try to minimize the wait times. Might want to check it out prior to arriving. Think the big change is, permits are no longer being sold at the dune entrance but the visitor center.

(7) Operate a vehicle requiring seat belts without a warning flag mounted and extending over the front-most portion of the vehicle. Vehicles not requiring seat belts shall mount the warning flag on the rear of the vehicle. Vehicle operators shall comply with all of the following requirements:

(a) The warning flag shall be mounted on a staff that is securely bolted, welded, or secured to the vehicle. The warning flag shall maintain a minimum 10-foot height at standstill and a minimum 8-foot height under motion.

(b) The warning flag shall be mounted on the top-most end of the staff. The flag shall be rectangular, international orange in color, solid material, with a minimum length on the supporting side of five inches and a minimum length on the base side of 10 inches.

Thanks for the information. I have my little brother getting me a pass ahead of time since he lives in the area still. I remember as a kid we used to go drive the entrance line to see all of the badass trucks heading in. I can't wait to join them this year!

I'm going to be looking at my 4Runner as well for front mounted flag mount options (Silver Lake MI rule). I noticed there was a threaded hole near the front stock recovery hook as well as another hole. Both of these could be used for mount fabrication designs I'm sure, but I am not a fabricator.

I should've taken a pic of the threaded hole I was looking at... Does anyone know the thread pattern on it?
