Ok, my wife and teenage drivers keep asking what the semi-circular holder behind the front cup holder is for. I got notin'............

Coins? What the hell are those? No seriously, that was the guess but it isn't sized for real US coins. Very odd design........

That's weird. One quick turn and your coins would go flying everywhere.

And why would a car manufacturer design a coin thing that's out in the open like that? That's just silly.
 
Coin Holder

It's a good place to mount something else because you don't care about removing, replacing, or covering up the coin holder. Very thoughtful of Toyota to provide such a sacrificial location!
 
Yes. Yes, it is silly. I was hoping there was some rational or hidden purpose I was just too simple to see. You know, like some ritual involving the Free Masons or such.....
 
Toyota actually challenged their design and engineering departments to come up with something that has no identifiable purpose, yet looks like it’s designed for something specific.

Told em to think up something that will force the owner to find every noon and cranny under the seats in order to find the change that went flying on the first turn
 
I keep my house/shop keys in it as I have a removable key ring so they keys don't hit my thigh while in the ignition.

For the dog owners among us, a roll of poop bags fits PERFECTLY in that location. (I have Trail; with the lever operated t-case the slot is shorter).

If I was replying from my phone I'd post a pic. I posted on on on the the 4R FB groups.
