Need advice on All Terrain tires for 20in limited wheels

Please give me thoughts on tires for the 20in limited wheels.
For now, I am going to stick with the 20 in rims on my limited, but want a different AT tire than stock. Planning to purchase later this month!

I won’t be climbing any rock, but will need traction on muddy logging roads and fields (bowhunting, flyfishing) plus snow traction.

I’d like my limited set up to look a bit more off road worthy, too. I would typically lean toward the BFGs -black out!

So far, I have seen photos on this forum of the BFGoodrichAT in 285/55R20. Also there is the Hankook Dynapro ATM in 275/55R20 on a limited in the forum. (also comes in P275/60R20)
And the Nitto Terra Grappler AT comes in the 285/55R20 (seen here) and multiple other lower profile tires for 20 inch rims.

How do you feel about these tires?
Other options?

Be prepared to spend big bucks.... A/T tires for 20" wheels aren't cheap. Not to mention the limited wheels are narrow like bicycle wheels.... not the best for muddy situations. I'd look for a wider 18" wheel if I were you.... though if your mind is made up on the 20", you'd be fine either the BFG A/T, Nitto Terra Grappler, or Goodyear Duratracs.

I agree - just not sure if I am ready to put on smaller wheels - yet.

I may yet go there before I make the purchase.

Cool, keep us updated. I was thinking that maybe the 18" wheels from the later 4th gen 4Runner Limiteds might look good... I was debating between the TE and the Limited and if I had gone the Limited route I would have probably gotten the 18" wheels from the 4th gen. Just something about those wheels I like I guess...

I live in Michigan and do a ton of bird hunting. I bought the Hankook Dynapro ATM for my limited and they were great last fall during bird season.

I think all those tires look great!! Although I'd lose the white letter on the BFGoodrich.

Thanks for the input.

It seems like many that do a lot of off roading put on smaller wheels which I understand - especially with boulders, adjusting psi, etc.

I suspect that this rig will go through some pretty gnarly mud and crud in stock form.

Anyone have any thoughts on mud and snow performance with 20in wheels and the 5th gen format?

I have the Terra Grapplers in a 275/60-20 size (requires lift kit). I love them so far. They are great all-around AT's IMHO. I don't mud or anything, but I drive plenty of slick trails and pastures around home. I've noticed that the traction control never kicks in after mounting these babies. You can run the 275/55-20 on your truck without a lift. The Hankook was my first choice, but they were unavailable when I ordered tires. BTW, 20 inch AT's will run you close to a grand no matter which brand you get.

I am thinking up to 3 inch lift so I could run the 275/60.

What size lift did you have to get? Can you post a link to the exact lift please.

What did the Terra Grapplers do to your gas mileage? The 275/55-20's would look good on my LE. I drive mostly on-road, but I want to be able to drive on the occasional slick trail. I'm weighing the cost/benefit ratio of going to a more aggressive tire.

My dash says that I am getting 14/18 mpg on my terra grapplers. But that is off a bit since my speedometer says that I am going 60 when I am really going 63 due to the increased tire circumference.

That's on the 275 60 20's which absolutely rock! I lifted 2" in front and back with the Toytec ultimate bilsteins so that I could keep my rake.

It wants to be loaded with archery equipment, venison, and Summit Oktoberfest!

i have these on my stock rims in a 275/55/20 and ABSOLUTELY love them.. i live in chicago and just drove through 6 hours of a winter storm with out a problem!!! have been great in the snow, are quiet, and look awesome!!!

These will not fit either the stock wheel or stock height suspension

I would advise against going with a 27/55/20 on stock 20" rims.

I have e-mailed a few Tire brands and they all have said that minimum rim width needs to be 7.5". Stock 20's on the fifth Gen is only 7".

you run the chance of tire separation and a very high chance of tire 'cupping'.

IMHO.
