    timing belt failure

Yes - I'm curious, I got 145K on my '98 Limited. I spoke to my local Mech. and he says I should wait. He just changed someone else's belt at 180k because he had to do the water pump which was leaking. But he said the belt still look in good condition. I don't want to spend the money if I really...

    Deck-plate Mod. Note

I finally got around to dong a simple deck plate mod to my '98 ltd. I had already installed a K&N filter last fall. I picked up a PVC 4" floor drain at Home depot, used a 4" hole saw and set the sucker in w/ RTV sealant. Pulled & returned the computer fuse to reset system. With 1st. full tank of...

    Oil Additives

Guys, I was just wondering , does anyone use any additives in their oil- such as STP, Zmax? In the old days we used Marvel Mystery Oil in the wintertime to "help the oil flow" A friend uses STP in his Nisson X-Terra to quiet down the valve noise on cold starts. Any comments? >Jack

    1998 tailgate lock repair

Folks, I just repaired my lock cylinder. I was able to re-attach the lock back to the 2 broken plastic screw holes on the back of the license plate frame. There was still enough "meat" to screw 2 longer self-tapping screws into. I was able to do this with the frame still in place( just a little...

    1998 tailgate lock repair

The lock cylinder in the tailgate of my 1998 T4R broke off of the internal mount. It seems to have been held in place by 2 self-tapping screws going into the back of the plastic license plate frame (I think). Now it just bangs around inside the tailgate. I've removed the inside plastic cover and...

    Toyota antifreeze

Guys, I asked this question before and never got a solid answer. What's the deal with Toyota antifreeze (the red stuff). Is it different/better than the regular green stuff I've been using forever in other cars? Are they compatable and mixable? My '98 came with the Red and I'll like to change...

    Toyota Coolant

I've been wondering about the funky color coolant in my 98 4runner. Is this stuff better/different than the regular Green stuff. Are they compatible and can be mixed? I guess what I'm asking is: If I do a flush in my driveway, should I refill w/ Toyota Brand or Prestone? I did a search and...

Wanting to replace stock 1998 fog light blubs...

Yes, H3 bulbs are 12 volts, but there are different wattages. The standard is 55 watt. Which is what Toyota recommends. I have the silverstar ultras as my headlites. and I just ordered the yellow 55 watt H3s for the stock fogs. I also have a set of Bosch driving lights mounted on my Pushbar. I...

    Buying used tires....

Dang! That's is a good deal. I sure could use 4 tires for my '98 limited. If anyone in the Jersey area has a set to unload - let me know, the ones that came with my vehicle might not make it till spring. Thanks, Jack

    Cold Start Squeal

I got an 88 limited w/ 3.4 engine. It runs great! But now since the weather been getting cold, when I startup in the morning I get a squealing noise from the front of the engine. It goes away after 5-10 mins. Sometimes it's intermittent and gets louder with more RPMs. It almost sounds like a...

help - 12 volt plugs not working

Dave, I'm not sure if this applies to your 4Runner, but on the '98 there is a fuse and a relay to control the power outlets. It's purpose is to turn on/off the outlets with the key. Try that instead of the Acc. fuse. >Jack
