    Off Topic Help

Try as I may, I've been unable to find a Tundra site that's as good as this one. Sorry for being so lame. Are there any good Tundra sites? Thank you very much. I am keeping my '97 4R, but want to get a good used Tundra also.

    drive shaft disconnect kit?

Anyone ever try a remco driveshaft disconnector and a remco transmission fluid pump? These allow towing a 4WD 4Runner w/ auto transmission ('97 in my case), with all four wheels down. Thanks, Guy

Thank you Gunner, I thought that socket looked kind of flimsy.

    locking lug nuts

My recently acquired '97 4R has one locking lug nut on each wheel. It takes a special socket with a wavy flange that fits into the lug. I have the socket. Tell me this set up will work in sub freezing temps, or that the groove in the lug nut won't fill up w/ ice, mud or grit. Anyone with any...

    towing an auto 4R ?

Yes, I agree on that, but the manual is pretty emphatic that anything but short distance and slow speed will damage the tranny. I guess I've answered my own question. Thanks

    towing an auto 4R ?

The manual says you have to use wheel dollies to tow a '97 4R 4WD with auto transmission. I believe the manual, but wonder if any of have a way figured to tow one with all four wheels grounded? Thanks

    periodic 4WD use

The manual for my "new" '97 says to drive at least 10 miles a month in 4WD in order to keep all the 4WD stuff ship shape. I can't help but think for some folks this has to involve driving on hard dry pavement just to get the 10 miles logged. This kinda goes against all I've ever been told about...

    The "extra power" button???

I've just gotten a '97 4R, V6, auto. There's a button by the emergency brake handle and the manual says to push it for certain situations, but the wording is kind of vague. Does this cut out any overdrive? Is it for towing? Or is it used in conjunction w/ 4WD low range? Do any of you guys ever...

    I found one!

Hi Neighbor, I got in Searsport. www.searsportmotorco.com Very nice folks. They have a bunch of Tacomas and other Tojo's. I had an FJ55 in the mid 70's, but I like the 4Runner better. We went up to Fayette today from our home on the Boothbay peninsula, and everything functioned normally. As you...

    I found one!

Too much, probably! 10 grand, but the low mileage for the year, along with it's excellent condition is what forced my hand. ...At least that's my excuse. It's a stock SR5 I guess. Brand new P65 General Grabbers were thrown in. The dealer had another '97 SR5 for 8 grand, but it had 115,000 miles...

    I found one!

I found a '97 4Runner with 79,000 miles on it. Seems to have been well cared for. V6;auto;4wd;leather,moon roof, alloy wheels, etc. I'm going to pick it up in the morning. Thanks to this site, and thanks to those who helped me w/ a couple of inquiries over the past two weeks.
