Just watched Interstellar for about the 5th time. Don't know what it is, but it's a great movie on the big TV and surround sound.

I watched the two Mamoru Oshii Ghost in the Shell movies in the past 7 days. Fantastic movies. Just a few pieces of advice:
If your perception of Ghost in the Shell is based on the Scarlett Johannson movie, forget that one. The originals are way better.
Ghost in the Shell 2.0 is not Ghost in the Shell 2. 2.0 is a really bad Star Wars Special Edition of the first movie. There's a completely serviceable yet spartan "25th anniversary edition" of the original cut of the first movie on blu ray, and the currently available (maybe the only one that was ever available) blu ray of Ghost in the Shell 2 is perfectly fine.

It was Ghost in the Shell and Akira that brought anime to the mainstream. Hard for me to think of anything else I can really look back on and say they really left as much a mark as those two animated films did after seeing them for the first time.

'Jeremiah Johnson' last night. Have seen it countless times over the years and it's still one of my favorites.
'The Revenant' is on the menu for tonight. A good adaptation of the true mountain man story of Hugh Glass, who was left for dead after a bear attack. Somehow survived without a cell phone or a 4Runner - imagine that.
For some reason I always root for the bears in these movies.

Inception is good. I heard good things about Tenet. These are movies you have to watch more than once to understand.

I watched both Battle Royale (original cut) and Battle Royale 2 (original cut).
I watched the first one after reading about how it was its 20th anniversary and in the article it gave more context for what was going on in Japan societally in the 90s when there was the big economic recession. It added a bit to watching the movie again, but I still think the movie pales greatly in comparison to the book. Granted, the movie was probably only ever going to pale greatly in comparison to the book because the book is ultra long, but it's still an okay movie.
I then watched the second one, and it's been so many years removed from when it came out that it's kind of shocking to go back to the time when it came out. It came out in 2003 as a response to the wave of terrorism in the early 00s, and watching it now is like opening a lid on the way things used to be. Still a really good movie in my opinion, though. It's been widely panned as crap, but I liked it. Next time I've got to watch the Revenge cut. It's been forever since I've seen that one. Finding it in HD is harder than finding unicorn poop, but I do have an old bootleg DVD. It's a slightly but importantly more complete experience.

I just watched "My Octopus Teacher" last night. It was pretty amazing and has won a bunch of awards so far. It has been nominated for an Academy Award for best Documentary.
