'00 sport fender flairs

hi,
i have a '00 SR5 with the black plastic "sport" fender flairs. i want to take off the running board, and put mudguards on, but then there is a gap between the flair and the flap. anyone figured this out? do they make a special flap that meets the flair, eliminating the gap?

Yes those are the flaps, but good luck ordering them. They have been discontinued for a long time. Some dealers will have one flap but not the other.

WTF? If questions weren't asked more than once I figure you could eliminate about 90% of the threads on this page which would make for a pretty boring forum. Things change, new products are brought to market daily, and new members have fresh inputs on topics that have been "hashed over".

Ask away, if someone wants to share a link a previous thread that may be helpful then great, but I don't see the point of discouraging members from asking a question today because it may have been discussed in the past.

I suppose this page could be reduced to just "build threads" and a search tool, but I'm not sure that's what everyone on this site is really looking for in a healthy forum.

I suggest you call them to ask if they really can get them in stock. This has happened many times before to other members. I got my set second hand from another forum member.

Hopefully you will get lucky and find one. I ordered a set from Camelback Toyota last year, they later notified me that they only had the passenger side in stock. I (and a few others) have done extensive searches for them. One of my local dealerships searched the entire Toyota Parts system, and showed only 1 available, which was at Pinellas Toyota, in Florida. I called them and was told that they actually did not have any.

I'd imagine that one of these days, a few will turn up, but I've given up the hunt.

I have the same set-up as you do, sport flairs with the running boards. I removed my running boards and cut off the plastic part of them that fills in that gap. I shaped them and screwed them back in, gave them some more strength with some thin metal, and ended up with some decent looking free front mud flaps.

You are going to have to find one used. Right hand seems to be the only one anyone can find. When I took mine off a couple years ago, I painted the section of the body showing black so it had the seamless look. Been two years and still looks good.

And as for searching, there are at least a dozen threads about these mud flaps...not a bad suggestion for anyone new to search first. You think this site is bad about that, try asking a repetitive question on pirate4x4...
