So, why is it that bead locks aren't street legal? If the tire is properly inflated i don't see them causing any danger, and non beadlocked wheel can be run at dangerously low psi anyway.

Probably because they don't want to go through the rigors of DOT testing.

Well your luck is better than mine! My wife drives a JK on 40's and Walker Evans beadlocks and I just got new tires last week, can't find anyone that will mount them up for me, I've done my own beadlocks before, just didn't feel like breaking my back over a set of 40's if I could help it! Tried 4wp, Discount Tire on 8th street, Discount Tire on Woodmen, Rex Tire on Colorad, Big O Tire in Woodland Park (where I live) and Firestone downtown. Even told all of them I would bring the tires and wheels in the bed of my truck, nobody would touch them! I heard yesterday that Predator4x4 has done them in the past but haven't called yet. Probably just gonna do them myself this weekend!

Your 4Runner looks great by the way, love the Trail Readys, those were the last set I had before the Walkers, they are a great wheel!

I know stores can be hit or miss with the bead locks. I am really surprised to hear that Rex wouldn't do it, they typically try to cater to the 4WD crowd. Call Jed at Armorology. He'll mount them for you but you'll have to take them somewhere to get balanced. He's just down the street from predator. I was in there yesterday. Looked like he was between projects and could probably get you in soon.

I'm torn on the wheels, and you bring up a good point on black wheels always looking dirty. I like the chrome as well, but think a black or dark graphite would look good too. I'm in need of more functional mods at the moment (skids, sliders, etc) so for now the wheels will stay as they are.

What's their reasoning? They don't have the right machine or legality issues? How do they know it's not a trailer queen?

Insurance liability. Beadlocks are a "two piece" wheel (as are old mobile home/trailer split wheels) which makes them non street legal. If a technician were to lose a finger while installing one of my wheels the company insurance wouldn't cover it, and if the tire/wheel were to malfunction and cause an accident or injury while driving down the road the company that mounted them could be held liable. Its dumb, but is what it is. My main reason for wanting to get them mounted up by someone else is just due to lack of space, my garage is pretty crowded right now with my FJ40 on jack stands undergoing a dana60/70 swap and the wife's 40's require a lot of room to mount/dismount.

Toytec Boss Coilovers
Toytec Superflex Coils
Bilsteins Long Travel rear Shocks

I also have the Toytec Boss coilovers (600lb) on my 02 4runner but have the OME 890 coils with the Boss rear shocks & was wondering if you adjusted the front coilovers from the factory settings. I was considering getting the superflex or OME 861 coils for the rear because I wanted a little more lift in the rear.

At the 2.5" preload from toytec on my front coil overs, it sits completely level with the rear (about 38.5" ground to fender w/o any weight in the back and a full tank of gas after getting an alignment & 285/75r16 BFG AT). My OME 890's ride great and with the ~150lbs in tools I typically carry they don't sag very much but just wanted a little more rake. Super clean looking 4runner btw.

Just saw your post. I do have them at the factory setting, but I have to say I think they set them a bit high. I have the super flex coils that ride a little high and think Toytec set up the fronts to match the height. I am thinking that I will actually bring the front down a bit just to give it a slight rake as I am level right not if not a little front bias.
Just a word of warning with the Superflex they seem to have some coil slap which some find annoying. I have put come coil sleeves on them which have helped a lot. But at $14 a piece and that you would need at least 4 of them to stop the slap they can get a little pricey. I really like the Superflex coils as they ride nice and offer a lot of travel but just know they can be noisy.

Thanks. When I first lifted it I got 4 inches up front and a tick over 3 in the rear. The fronts settled a little and I cracked them down a bit too and am not probably closer to 3 in the front now.
