and I'm not sure about the last pict but I think that is a dent? after having the headliner down and looking for decent support areas, unless you plan on taking the headliner down and adding extra support up front... it's super thin single layer up in that part.

I have a sunroof @ about the 1/2 way point on the sunroof opening on the sides is a double piece of support added into the roof. not sure about the non sunroof version. I would be scared to put much weight up on the front portion of the rack. Any kind of shock might put a dent or deform that part of the roof?

I have seen people put spare tires, 10 gallons of gas, 10 gallons of water... even grandma can ride up there.

it's a great looking rack I love it but over the years I have worked to get everything off the roof and someplace else, the only thing that goes up on my rack now is RTT.

I'm sure with your fab skills (which are top notch IMO) you will get it right on. when I saw the templates... I'm a long time wood worker... I knew this was a build I was going to like.

Thanks for the compliment on my jigs and fab! I also have a sunroof and dont even have decking up there.. so i dont think there will be much weight, but this is all very good stuff to keep in mind.

With the snow pilling up outside I decided to use my morning commute to get this sucker welded up. Having the ability to work from home on occasion is awesome!

Picked up rack yesterday from powder. I am so happy with it!!!!

Just ordered all the parts to do Tundra brakes up front, and a set of SPC Upper Control Arms. Looking forward to having a day off in the next couple weeks to install them! I put on a set of 2" wheel spacers a few weeks ago to see what the offset would drive like. While it looks great and drives great I am not happy with the rubbing. So I am going to pull off the spacers today.

My son is still very excited about the roof rack, and has learned how to climb up and down using the open sunroof. He still misses the Astro van we built up last year (I dont!), but has a new place in his heart for our new "Monster Truck" (t4r).

So next on the todo list: Pull off 2" Spacers, Fix backup camera, Install UCA's and Tundra brakes, Fabricate ladder. I will try to keep the photos coming!

Beefed up tow hooks

The Family and I are planning a trip to Frontenac Farms Offroad Park during their Memorial Day celebration. Their tech checklist is pretty basic, but got me thinking it would be good to replace front factory tow hooks with something more substantial, and create some for rear. Here is what I came up with..

Nah I’m good for now. Thanks though! It’ll be awhile now before I look back into getting one. Projects have piled up for the summer already.

From what I have read around the web the offroad park has trails for daily drivers and dedicated off road machines.. so I feel pretty good about packing the family into runner and heading down. Let me know if you want to meet up, we will be there early Saturday.

I was thinking about heading out to Dresser as well. Last time I went out there it did not seem like the place to bring a DD though.. and like you told me awhile ago, its easy to break things out there.

I drive out there so then I can be careful because I know I have to drive home. If you do the bypasses and are careful you’ll be fine. It’s more fun to do the bypass and then watch other people wreck their junk anyways.
