I suggest you to buy new oem housings, and do G5-brt projectors, great aftermarket performance.

if you don't have the time do this, a retrofitter like lightwerkz.net does a really good job, new oem housings and projector retrofit, and any paint, will start you off in the 1200 i think, also use oem bulbs like osram and phillips, you can get to like 1500+ in headlight mods, assuming you also need ballast, hyluxtek is really reliable.

there is other people on here that do headlight work, some people got ripped off by others, be aware of what projectors are used, lots of folks paying too much for those H1 projectors jobs, I suggest using the D2S projectors, that way you can use osram and philips bulbs.

yes, that would have been a great idea 7 or 8years ago. now my truck is 11yrs old and about 190k miles. not so keen on pouring that amount of money into it for just light mods at this point.

Got some impending tranny issues, p0748...and may be needing a new tranny, if am unable to resolve the solenoid issue. hope to baby the truck till 2025 and get a decent built 2016/2017 model.

that only works if you have the 06-09 headlights, the brackets are only design to fit that application, your spec d housing uses a different bracket.

I wouldn't mess with that spec d housing, the lens probably faded already. new aftermarket housings are alright, but remember they do damage faster than oem.

you might be able to get away with using the 06-09 housings on your truck, and use those g5 brackets, the g5 projectors are really good, I have them on 2 other vehicles.

I forgot to mention, that you are paying 80 for the brackets alone, the projectors are separate. you might be able to find someone here to do your retrofit with the aftermarket housings and I think H1 projectors, these are about 800 bucks starting.

wow, thanks for your post. in my haste, i thought the lightwerkz link included both D2S projectors and bracket!...now i see its just for brackets only!.

thats a bummer, guess am gonna live with the suboptimal lighting..or throw in an 06-09 hl assy and lower tabs and call it a day!

if you look at the inside of your spec d lights, it'll be like this

buy some decent used assemblies and practice on. then when you are ready, go all out.

thanks for the insight. do you know the size of the projectors in the spec d?

Am considering the D2S, but i see 2 sizes 2.5mm and 3mm projectors, unsure which is the correct size

your better off going back to the 03-05 oem reflector housing and putting in the d2s projector, the 3inch lens do fill in better than the 2.5 inch lens.

the link for the opened up headlights, I can tell it is not a big projector. contact the place you are planning to purchase, I'm sure they have good return policy.

lightwerkz have done 3 of my vehicles, my current s2000 setup on the 4runner, and g5-brt on the 05 tacoma and 2011 camry. they used my pics on the projector page.
