03 4Runner seat rattle

update! rattle is fixed
they got fixed the rattle, they called the master tech and found out the problem is on rear brake! too weird...
i think theres something connection with that transmission or comp box located beside glove compartment
they just adjust and realign the brake and the rattle is gone.
3hrs of waiting, 2 cups of coffee and watch jerry springer.. priceless!!!! :biggrin2:

I've heard electric seats do not have this problem. I believe somewhere in this thread it is discussed, as people were trying to replace their seats with electric in order to alleviate the problem.
Unfortunately (again from what I've read), for cars without electric seats the wiring does not exist to install them afterwards without some work.

2006 Seat Problem
I just bought a "new" 2006 Limited 4Runner. It was a dealer demo, so it was sold as new (w/ warranty), but had 6600 miles when I bought it.
My front passenger seat squeaks so horribly, that my husband has to sit in the back seat. I have the power seats, and I've noticed that the squeak is not too bad when the seat is pushed up close to the dash, but it gets worse the farther back you slide the seat.
It's hard to pin-point the exact location of the squeak, but it's on the right side of the seat back, and down low - near the base.
I took it back to the dealer, and they "didn't hear it" (HUH?!?! - You can't sit in the seat it's so bad!!!) All they did was grease the seat track.
Anyone else having a problem with the power seats??
ALSO - The latches on the back seats squeak/rattle/vibrate. I've isolated that it's definitely where the seat latches onto the metal hook/clasp on the sidewall.
Again, the dealer "didn't hear it", but told me that it was my cargo area cover rattling because I didn't have the little extenders hooked to the headrest posts on the back seats. (Yeah, right - the cargo cover should not be needed to keep the seats from rattling).
I've taken the cover completely out of the truck, and the rattle is still there. I fold the seats down, and it goes away. It's definitely the latch mechanism. I plan on wrapping some teflon tape around the metal hook tonight, but I don't know if that will work.
BTW - I have a '94 Toy 4x4 Pickup that I love so much I refused to trade it in. I told my hubby that if he made me get an SUV, I was keeping the PUP. I love the 4Runner, but these squeaks are taking all the joy out of buying my 1st new vehicle in 12 years!!!

I've complained about the seat in my '03 SR5 V8 ever since I bought the truck. Got the same response, the movement is "normal", and there is no fix. Well, I got a call from the service manager at my dealer the other day. Toyota has a fix! They ordered the new frame for me and I had it installed today. It looks and feels much stronger than the original stamped frame.
I noticed the difference as soon as I sat down. With the old frame, the seat always "gave" a little, and at 210 lbs., I'm no lightweight, but not huge either. With the new frame, no give. Very solid.
I didn't notice a TSB referenced on the work order, but the part no. for the new frame is 71120-35151.
At this point, I would consider my truck cured. This seat clunk/movement was the only real complaint I ever had with my Runner. I guess now I've got no choice but to strongly lean in the direction of another one when time to trade mine.

Also, the back seat latch rattle is another known issue (especially on the passenger side). Toyota's fix is electrical tape, so the tape idea is a good one.

I have a 06 runner manual seats...my seat rattles back and forth also like the damn seat is loose....Made a appt. with Toyota for this weekend...hopefully they have those rails in stock
My driver seat started rattling probably 6 months after i drove of the showroom floor. The replaced the whole driver seat assembly including the bracket, about a year later...same problem but not as bad. Ever since ive had the car an ungodly annoying rattle had been coming from the rear driver side seat but i have not made the attempt to have it fixed yet...should i bother or should i just try taping the "D" latch to see if it stops?
My 05 Limited with power seats is experiencing creaking in my drivers seat. It's best described as a metal creaking, like torque is being applied to the frame possibly. I can somewhat replicate it manually by bouncing on the seat. I have it scheduled to be brought to my local Toyota maintenance dept this Friday. I am at 35500 miles, so time is of the essence. I'll let you know what I hear.

I never would have thought that so many of us have this squeaky seat problem. The sound is really horrible and i have been trying to figure out for weeks where the sound is coming from exactly.

I have an '06 sport. Coming up on 30,000 miles with the power seats and yes, I have the same issues. I also notice creeks and rattles that seem to be coming from the center console and/or the passenger side.
I'm going to talk to my dealer about it, but they'll probably blow me off since I've had custom stereo equipment installed.

Both my 2006 and 2008 4Runners had the seat squeak/pop issue. The 2006 developed it around 20k miles and the 2008 around 2500 miles. The dealer had to replace the complete seat frame in the 2006 to fix the seat popping issue. They only had to replace the seat track in my 2008 4Runner (last week) to stop the seat popping/cracking sound. Hopefully it will permanently fix the issue in this truck.
You'd think Toyota would have done better testing of the seats and the seat mechanisms.

Same problem here with my 05 SR5, with 49k on it. I have it in now and they said that they will either need to replace the track or the entire seat. I called 1800 toyota customer service who opened a file, but I doubt, based on what I have read here, that anything will make any difference.

I have an 07 Sport V8 with 8500 miles on it. It has power seats. The driver's seat has a creaking noise and it sounds like it is coming from the back right corner.
I also feel like something is popping when I hear the creak, again coming from the back right corner. Not sure what it is, but when I take it in, I will mention it to the dealer to look at it.
