'03 v6 sr5 vs. '04 wrx

I haven't got a chance to max out my v6 4Runner. The maximum I ever got is 100 mph on the way to NewYork. There are too much traffic and cops around. I really want to try it once. have anyone know there is a racing track that I can test my Rig on around Northern Virginia?

Well we're both in college and we're both part time valet drivers...so we're both good at driving like a-holes...but maybe you're right. And also, he said that ever since he put the 18" rims on, the acceleration of the WRX slowed.

But on my own note: the WRX 0-60 is faster--yes, but we weren't racing from a stop. So it comes down to the gearing and ability to accelerate from certain speeds. And 0-60 is one thing...but what about 60-100? Like when I ran my brother's Saleen against another kid in a Dodge SRT-4. His 0-60 is supposed to be about the same. And it was because we were side by side through first gear and part of 2nd. But after that, I pulled like a madman! I forget what I was getting at, but YEAH--good discussion guys.

I don't care what experience you 2 guys had - his V6 slightly out accelerating the V8 -

Car mags have tested the 2 repeatedly, and the V6 is about a second slower to 60 as well as the 1/4 mile.

I'll be happy to race and smoke any V6 owner out there. Heck, I'll even put a 6 pack of beer on the line.... ;-)

This sounds like an interesting experiment - I happen to be a new owner of an '04 V8 and a lightly mod'd '03 WRX. One thing is for sure the V8 torque is sweet, I'm sure I could stomp an unsuspecting WRX driver. At super-legal speeds, its all WRX but that 0-40ish run would be very interesting indeed. To get a good launch in the WRX you have to prepare for it. If first gear is engaged at too low an RPM I'm cooked until the turbo wakes up at just under 3K RPM. Getting caught off-boost in WRX sucks too. I'll report back when I get a chance to conduct some "tests"

Yup. The real world can have widely varried results based on an almost infinite number of variables, but when every single car magazine out there shows the V8 4Runner as being around a full second faster than the V6, then you know there's a difference between the two.

I drove the two back to back before we ordered ours and there was a very noticable difference at low RPM stop light to stoplight 'light/moderate' acceleration. And the one time floored it in the V8 I was reminded of the my GS400 to an extent. When I floored it in the V6 I was more reminded of a 'peppy' sedan. You could tell it was getting up and going, but it didn't throw my head back nearly as much off the line, nor have that strong effortless pulling sensation at high RPM.

The VVT-i model should prove even faster compared to the V6.

If you guys can locate a V6 4Runner owner in the Memphis, TN area, I'd be happy to meet up with them at our local track and run once we get our 4Runner in december and give it a few thousand miles to break in.

I said nothing about the v6 being able to beat the v8...cuz it can't. I was just saying that my friend in the Subaru WRX CAN drive and that it was a close race from a 30mph roll. Wow this post was months ago...I can see that it's getting attention--which is good. But yes, the V8 is faster...obviously...extra gear, extra torque. Also, I need new tires and I want big ones. How about those Revos that everyone's been talking about? Do they make them for my 16" wheels and how much do they cost? Thanks.

I hung nose to nose with a blue 350Z from a stoplight until the road ended (two lanes merge into one). I backed off because the Z was going to hit the shoulder and grassy area before they were going to admit losing and back down themselves.

The Borla was screamin. It sounded good.

My last 'muscle car' (new '82 Chevy Z28) would have been proud. This Runner would have smoked the Z28 too.

There was strong pull all the way to when I let off the gas. Amazing power and smoothness.

I believe he was quite dumbfounded that a tank could keep up they way I did. I could tell he was trying everything he could to take the lead.

i don't know about where you live...but in chicago, those merges are only about 500ft from the intersection, so they come up pretty fast. a lot of guys with fast cars around here do get dumbfounded when i beat them to the merge because they don't realize that it's only a short distance and only vipers, porches, and other cars like that are able to get up to speed quick enough to cut me off.

I raced a wrx also 02. I definitely had no problem keeping up with him, and we went up to 50 mph I was about to pass him but I had to slow down because it's on a street.. and I don't want to get caught.

I'm sure if we went up to like 70-90 mph plus.... I'm sure the wrx would pull away due to it's turbo and high rev.


I have a v-8 05....

on the way back... I raced a new Jaguar the sedan with the v-8. yeah... spanked my butt... it pulled about almost one car length ahead of me... those things are fast

The non-VVT-i V8 is rated 10HP less then the VVT-i V6, but the V8 has the torque advantage. With this said, in a drag race they both come up about equal. If they were towing the V8 would have the torque advantage.

I think there would be a different outcome if the V8 was a VVT-i V8.
