04 4runner wheel Bearing Removal?

Alright I've search all around for info but haven't had much luck. I don't have money for the manual and i've changed wheel bearings in rwd trucks but not in a 4wd so I was wondering if anyone could help me out with some a how to or pictures....

I'm in the same boat, looking for some instructions. Just called my dealer and they said the hub has to be pressed out, and they charge 2 + hours labour for this at 115$/hour?? And the bearing is not cheap, 298.75$ CDN just for one bearing!!

Do either of you have any local shops that you trust? I have moved on from dealer (now that the warranty is up) and I have a local mechanic that I trust with my life. And he has saved me a fortune in the past with other cars over any dealer.

I don't know any local guys but I will look into it for sure, I'm new to Calgary city...

I just bought a brand new genuine toyota bearing on ebay for 70$. Got lucky I guess!

An other guy sells them for 90$ + shipping. The link is for the rear but just ask him for the front he's got them (that's what he told me anyway).

Anybody else has input on this, is it worth taking to the local garage or what?

Ya i trust them but I rather do it myself i don't know if the hub needs to be pushed out or not i just need the how to before I do it Because changing them on a minivan was easy but those where the rear.... lol I need the front done.

I wouldnt do it yourself, the wheel baring is covered under 60000 mile power train waranty and should be fixed for free. I just had mine go out and the dealership fixed it and all I had to do is sign a piece of paper.

How did you determine the wheel bearing went bad? Is this an issue with '04's or in general at a particular mileage?

I wasnt able to tell the baring was bad by driving however I caught it early. If there is a serious problem with the bearing the steering wheel will probably shake pretty bad. I discovered mine was bad when i had the tires rotated and when the car is on the lift and you grab the tire and try to shake it it shoulnd have any play in it, it should feel pretty solid. My front left wheel would shift back and forth like it was loose. When i took it to the dealership to get it replaced they said it was the first 4th generation 4 runner that they had replaced the wheel bearing so I dont think its a problem with the 04's. I guess toyota cant be perfect all the time.

Thanks Ozzy! I had two O2 sensors fail in the first year... Toyota said they had a bad batch during the time of production when mine was built. They replaced both without question and I haven't had any issues since. Glad to know this seems like an isolated incident...
